There weren’t as many pass catching targets on hand, but they showed some very good skills due to getting extra work. Here is my breakdown of the pass catching targets in attendance last Sunday.
2021 WR Ryan Doherty, St. Charles North (6’ and 180-pounds) @ryandoh18
There weren’t many drops for Doherty, maybe two on the day. That was impressive but the way he caught the ball was also, never letting the ball get to his body and always using his strong hands to make the catch. Doherty runs crisp routes, great in-and-out of his breaks. He’s got a few offers, Augustana and North Park, but Doherty should be getting much more attention.
2022 WR/K Kai Paz, South Elgin (5’10” and 155-pounds) @KaiPQBS356
Paz ran some very solid routes, showing some very good footwork. If he wants to play receiver at the next level, he’ll need to work on his hands and strength. Paz does play another position, place kicker, but obviously didn’t see him do that. His future might be at that position and I’d love to see Paz get some work in kicking.
2023 TE Kyle Nord, St. Charles North (6’3” and 195-pounds) @KyleNord3
Nord just looks like a tight end, his lower half is very strong. Nord will need to get some more upper body strength, but he’s got plenty of time to do that. He ran good routes, but will need to work on his hands a bit. Nord should see some varsity time this year and could be a big part of the offense going forward.
2023 WR Blake Schuette, St. Charles East (6’1” and 165-pounds) @SchuetteBlake
For a young player, Schuette runs some very good routes. He’s got great footwork, while showing some strong hands. He will need to get stronger, but the frame is there for Schuette to do that. There’s potential for him to see some varsity time this year, which would help his development going up against some better defenders. If Schuette keeps growing, he could turn into a very good redzone target.
2024 WR Anthony Taormina, St. Charles North (5’8” and 140-pounds) @ataormina15
Another young player who has a bright future, Taormina routes were clean and has good footwork. He’s a bit light right now and will need to get in the weight room. Taormina has good body control when he goes up to catch the ball, often using his hands instead of his body to make the catches. He’s technical with his movements, it shows that he’s been working on them. Taormina is one to watch the next few years.
Special mention: Jamor Singleton, 6th grade @jsingleton24
Singleton is very large for his age, standing 5’7”, he towered over everyone else in the younger group. He’s extremely raw, but has a ton of talent. Singleton showed he has good hands and as he grows will get stronger and faster. Singleton is a name to know as he heads towards high school in a few years.
