Scottsdale Christian came out and absolutely dominated on both sides of the ball, as nearly the whole Scottsdale Prep team looked scared and rattled from the start. In a 49-7 Scottsdale Christian victory, there were a number of players that made big plays. Take a look at the top 5 offensive players of the game:
Offensive MVP: Ben Tobin, ATH, Scottsdale Christian (C/O 2021)
Tobin had 4 TD’s on the night and showed everyone why he is the best athlete in 2A. He was strictly QB, and was able to make plays through the air and on his feet. Tobin was able to scramble out of a sack, and find his receiver Coby Tabet downfield to throw a dart on the move in his non-dominant direction for a 75 yard TD. He had another impressive play as he was able to take a designed QB run to the edge then made a quick cut upfield for about a 55 yard TD. Tobin’s speed separation was extremely impressive. His most impressive play of the night was when he couldn’t find a receiver open, looked like a blown up play, then tucked it and ran and then trucked a defender for a 21 yard TD, making it TD #4 on the night. Don’t let the size of his school scare you away, Tobin is an all out playmaker and will compete with anyone. I believe he is a solid D2 level talent, and needs to be on your prospect list immediately. Tobin is a level above everyone in 2A.
Coby Tabet, WR/DB, Scottsdale Christian (C/O 2023)
Tabet is a promising sophomore with a ton of potential. He had a couple big plays tonight that brought the hype for Scottsdale Christian early in the game. On the first drive, he caught a slant, cut back outside, and broke about 4 tackles for a 30+ yard gain. He had a 75 yard TD in which he caught a scrambling Tobin pass, then cut back across the field and used his speed to burn past everyone for a TD. He showed to be a solid blocker in the run game as well, as he never took run plays off. He did a great job of fighting for those extra YAC’s all night, as he was constantly fighting and trying to break through for extra yards when wrapped up.
Boden Davidson Boden Davidson 5'10" | 165 lbs | ATH Scottsdale Christian | 2022 State AZ , RB/DB, Scottsdale Christian (C/O 2022)
Davidson, the Fountain Hills transfer, showed some solid spurts of speed and athleticism. He had a couple 20+ yard runs that were called back on penalties. His best work is on the edges, as he does a good job of using his speed to get outside and sets up his cuts upfield nicely. He ran off of blocks pretty well, and showed solid vision. Once he gets into the second level is when he can really get moving and be a hard guy to catch. His skillset points to a possible slot/return specialist at a D3 level, and is definitely worth getting on your radar as he still has another year to develop.
Carson Boyll, ATH, Scottsdale Prep (C/O 2022)
Boyll accounted for Scottsdale Prep’s only TD of the night on an 8 yard run up the middle to score. Boyll was the only kid that could move the ball for Scottsdale Prep, but definitely showed solid speed and shiftiness. The drive of his TD, he was constantly getting solid chunks of yards during runs and catching screens to lead his TD drive. Boyll showed a quick spin move that was effective about 3-4 times and made a good amount of tacklers miss throughout the night. Boyll will have to have to step up big for Scottsdale Prep in order for them to be a contender in the playoffs.
Will Chambers, OL/LB, Scottsdale Christian (C/O 2021)
Chambers was clutch all night for the Scottsdale Christian O-line. Lined up at LT, Chambers protected Tobin well as he showed solid physicality and aggressiveness all night. He was great in the run game, as he was constantly opening up huge holes are cracking and driving his opponents back. He showed a solid anchor, and was able to redirect his opponents often. Chambers was able to get good leverage on is opponents which really helped the Scottsdale Christian ball carriers find their holes, as there were numerous big plays to his side. He is a solid athlete on both sides of the ball, and did a great job of protecting his playmakers to win the region title.
