The stars of Wisconsin high school football did just that in round one of the playoffs as we have the most players in this article that we have ever had with 18. This is exactly what coaches at the next level want to see. Who can handle the bright lights and the big stages and step up to the challenge. We have 18 players here who were ready to make that step and did. Let’s take a look at who they are!
Malachi Munoz Malachi Munoz 6'4" | 270 lbs | OL Sheboygan Falls | 2021 State WI , Senior OL- Sheboygan Falls
Stat Line: 284 Team Rushing Yards and 5 Rushing TDs, 110 Team Passing Yards, 1 Passing TD
Munoz mauls defensive linemen. I was able to watch him live this past week and it lived up to the hype. He has the strength to drive linemen not just out of the gap, but out of the box completely. His ability to finish his blocks either way downfield or into the ground is one of my favorite traits of his. He plays angry and is a tone setter for the offense as they steam rolled their way to another impressive victory. Add in the athleticism to pull all the way down the right side of the line and kick out defenders and you get one of the top senior offensive linemen and one of my favorite films to watch. Watch him dominate here! Malachi Level One Playoffs
Dominik McVay Dominik McVay 5'10" | 185 lbs | ATH Mineral Point | 2022 State WI , Junior RB/WR- Mineral Point
Stat Line: 4 Carries, 38 Rushing Yards, 1 Rushing TD, 90 Yard KOR TD. Bonus: Fumble Recovery TD
McVay has become one of the most electric players in the state this season. He has game breaking speed and the ball carrier vision to find every slice of daylight. Dominik is a serious threat to score with every touch and he almost did just that this past week. Once McVay gets to space there is no catching him. If he breaks contain it is game over. He is so versatile too. I can easily see him playing RB or WR at the next level as well as returning kicks and punts. He has received interest from the D1 level and it is well deserved. Check out what he did last week!
Joe Ollman, Junior RB- Homestead
Stat Line: 22 Carries, 168 Rushing Yards, Game sealing TD, 65 Total Return Yards on 3 Returns
Joe is starting to climb up my RB rankings for the 2022 class after each performance. This week is no different as he proved that he can handle being a key factor to the result of the game. He proved that he can make an impact in several ways as well. Joe won with speed, agility, and vision on some plays, and then he would win with power and contact balance on other plays. I really like his balanced attack. You don’t often find players of his size with his athleticism who also have the feel for carrying the ball. I don’t see any offers yet, but I suspect that to change in the spring as he prepares for his senior season. Ollman’s Level One Playoffs
Brady Frey Brady Frey 6'0" | 270 lbs | OL Brookfield East | 2022 State WI , Junior OL- Brookfield East
Stat Line: 270 Team Rushing Yards, 3 Rushing TDs
Brady is a thick lineman that makes an impact on both sides of the trenches. Based off this week, I would play Brady at the guard position at the next level. He plays with a wide, strong base and it allows him to anchor well in pass protection to stop any bull rush and when he gets his hands on defensive linemen in the run game it gives him the strength to create plenty of push. Brady isn’t just a big body either. His athleticism and quickness for the position jumps off the tape on several plays. The way he can cross a defensive lineman’s face, get his butt to the hole, and maintain his block is impressive to watch. It’s clear why he has already been garnering some D2 and FCS interest.
Joe Schmidt Joe Schmidt 6'3" | WR Brookfield Academy | 2021 State WI , Senior WR- Brookfield Academy
Stat Line: 13 Receptions, 190 Receiving Yards, State Record 6 Receiving TDs
What a week for Joe! Insane production from the Brookfield Academy senior. When you click on the tape you can see right where he fits in best too. With his 6’3″ frame, Joe is perfect in the redzone and in any jump ball situation. He has the ability to run the quick routes like slants because his size allows him to protect the ball by boxing out defenders, but where he shines is when he can use that size and length to go up and get the ball over defenders instead of in front of them. He Moss’d so many defenders in this past week’s film. You have to check it out! Joe’s Level One Playoffs
Grover Bortolotti Grover Bortolotti 5'10" | 185 lbs | DB Whitefish Bay | 2021 State WI , Senior RB/DB- Whitefish Bay
Stat Line: 201 All Purpose Yards, 4 TDs. Bonus: 3 PBUs on defense
I have always considered Grover to be a safety, but the more I watch him the more I think he could very well play RB at the next level too. He plays with impressive quickness once he gets the handoff. He can quickly find holes and if there isn’t anything inside he has the speed to break contain and get upfield. His vision in the open field jumps out too as he will cut back against the grain to turn 4-5 yard plays into big gains. Grover also showed off the strength you like to see on one of his TDs at the goal line. Check this kid out. He can play either way for a college program. No doubt about it. Grover’s Level One Playoffs
Demarion Cobb Demarion Cobb 5'11" | 200 lbs | RB Racine St. Catherine | 2021 State WI , Senior RB- St. Catherine’s
Stat Line: 24 Carries, 270 Rushing Yards, 4 TDs
Demarion ran wild in the opening round of the playoffs. His acceleration through the hole really shined in this week’s film. Cobb reads his blocks really well too. So many times there wouldn’t even be an LB around to make a play because Cobb did a good job of keeping a blocker between himself and the defense until he was loose in the secondary. Once he got to the secondary, Cobb’s contact balance made it hard for DBs to bring him down on their own and he would consistently pull them along. Check him out right here!

Sam Peiffer, Junior WR- Cedar Grove- Belgium
Stat Line: 10 Receptions, 202 Receiving Yards, 3 TDs
Sam killed the defense in the scramble drill on multiple occasions this past week. If the whistle hasn’t blown then you can bet that Sam is still working to get open for his QB. He also proved that he is tough to bring down after the catch. He bounced and spun off several tackle attempts, including one of his TDs where he stiff armed one guy and spun off another before scoring. I have watched Sam quite a bit this season and I have gotten to the point where if the ball is near him I know he is going to find a way to come down with it. Then add in the unselfish moments like how he was essentially one of the lead blockers down near the goal line on a TD run this week. Sam can do it all. Sam’s Level One Playoffs
Jackson Trudgeon, Junior WR- Edgewood
Stat Line: 118 Receiving Yards, 1 TD. Bonus: 9 Solo Tackles
Jackson has the perfect blend of size and speed for both the WR and safety positions. He has the level of speed that makes it look like everyone else is almost in slow motion. It’s college level athleticism. I can easily see Jackson playing on either side of the ball at the next level too. He has the range and instincts for the safety position and he has the hands, run after catch ability, and an innate ability to find openings in the coverage needed at the receiver position. He did it all last week. Jackson’s Level One Playoffs
Zach Miller, Junior WR/TE- Grantsburg
Stat Line: 6 Receptions, 162 Receiving Yards, 2 TDs
Zach is a versatile pass catcher. He can line up out wide or tight to the offensive tackle and beat the DB or LB covering him. He has the frame to develop into someone who could play either WR or TE as well at 6’2″ 200 lbs. Zach also plays with a nice mix of speed and strength as well. He is developing into a dynamic option in the passing game. I expect he becomes a D2-D3 target as he prepares for his senior season this next spring and summer. Zach’s Level One Playoffs
Augie Marks Augie Marks 5'11" | 180 lbs | ATH Oconomowoc | 2021 State WI , Senior WR- Oconomowoc
Stat Line: 1 Carry, 11 Rushing Yards, 1 Rushing TD, 1 Reception, 57 Receiving Yards, 1 Receiving TD
Speed kills and Augie killed the Watertown defense last Friday. He only touched the ball twice on offense, but he took both to the house and he nearly returned a kickoff for 6 as well. Augie is a receiver who has the speed to break a game wide open with a single touch. It’s not just lightning quickness that makes him dangerous. His kickoff return on this week’s film shows how well he runs through contact as well. Take a look! Augie’s Level One Playoffs
Kegan Huber, Junior Athlete, Badger
Stat Line: 5 Carries, 21 Rushing Yards, 3 Receptions, 78 Receiving Yards, 1 Receiving TD
I could put Huber in either the offense or defense article this week. On defense he shows the reactive athleticism you need to see at the DB position and the speed to run with receivers. That speed also translates to the offensive of the ball. He is a versatile player as he showed off some impressive start-stop ability in tight quarters as an RB and he has very natural hands that he put on display as a receiver. That’s why I went with the athlete label for him because Kegan could do a lot at the next level, so I don’t want to hold him to one position.
Maddux Allen, Junior QB- Cumberland
Stat Line: 14/19, 322 Passing Yards, 5 TDs
Maddux opened the playoffs with a great performance. He delivered perfect passes in so many different ways. He showed that he could stretch the field with his arm strength, or he could use touch on short passes, and his accuracy on every completion was pinpoint. Maddux also showed that he can be accurate while throwing off platform without his feet perfectly set. He can get the ball out of his hands quick too with his release. There is a lot to work with here in this junior. Maddux’s Level One Playoffs
Logan Arrowood, Junior QB- Cedar Grove- Belgium
Stat Line: 15/19, 301 Passing Yards, 4 Passing TDs, Rushing TDs
The ball jumps out of Logan’s hand and he can get the ball to all three areas of the field, short, intermediate, and deep, with plenty of zip on the ball. Logan is also a threat to the defense with his legs and isn’t afraid to finish his run with some physicality. At 6’2″ 190 lbs he has the size to withstand the punishment of his running style. His athleticism shows up in more than just his running. It also translates to his ability to throw on the run and with different arm angles when pressured. Have a look at his film. Logan’s Level One Playoffs
Sterling McKinley, Senior QB/DB- Grantsburg
Stat Line: 13/24, 306 Passing Yards, 1 Passing TD. Bonus: 9 Total Tackles
Sterling has some of the quickest feet I’ve seen at the position. He is very light on them in his drop and that ability gives him the chance to buy time in the pocket with his ability to make defenders miss or maneuver in the pocket. Sterling is best in the short to intermediate range. That’s where he can get the velocity on the ball to fit it into windows in time. Another thing that I picked up on his film this week is he might have the best play action fakes I’ve seen this season. It seems like a small thing, but that can create some big plays. Sterling’s Level One Playoffs
TJ Payne, Senior WR- Hortonville
Stat Line: 6 Receptions, 156 Receiving Yards, 2 Receiving TDs
I have been missing out here! TJ has some nice tape. I’m a big fan of his speed and route running. The combination clearly terrified the defense this week. The film starts off with him taking the top off the defense with a deep shot that he demonstrated some impressive catch in traffic ability on. Then he threatens the defense with that speed again, but as soon as the DB flips his hips to run he makes the out cut on his route creating a ton of separation. His elusiveness after the catch is another tool he uses to put a ton of pressure on the defense. If pursuit doesn’t get there to help he is hard to contain and bring down. TJ’s Level One Playoffs
Zach Peterson, Senior RB- Oak Creek
Stat Line: 16 Carries, 201 Rushing Yards, 2 Rushing TDs
I thought I was looking at a change of pace back with some serious speed when I was halfway through the film because he consistently was able to break contain with that speed then fly down the sideline and he also showed that he can turn any bit of daylight between the tackles into 6 points with his acceleration. Then he took a carry up the middle and ran through a big hit and then absorbed a second big shot before finally being brought down. Based off this film, I believe Zach could fill a lot of roles thanks to the speed and contact balance that he possesses. Return man, change of pace back, and he has the frame to handle the additional size needed if he was to handle a larger workload. Not sure how he doesn’t have any offers. At least none posted. Check this kid out! Zach’s Level One Playoffs
Alex Belongia, Junior WR/DB- Rice Lake
Stat Line: 5 Receptions, 198 Receiving Yards, 2 Receiving TDs. Bonus: 2 INTs
At 6’2″ 185 lbs, Alex already has an up and coming frame that offers a lot to work with. The first thing I noticed on his film is his releases at the line of scrimmage when pressed. Several times he actually was able to use his release to create separation on his route. Then he has the speed to keep that separation or make even more for his QB. Alex has also demonstrated that he knows how to go up and get it at it’s highest point as well as adjust his body to the ball as it’s in the air. He is a legitimate deep threat based off this film. He needs to be on a ton of radars as his junior season wraps up. Alex’s Level One Playoffs
