But the Crusaders passed — easily — to continue their undefeated season and momentum toward a goal of a first state championship since 1971.
A pair of the team’s leaders, quarterback Garrett Mmahat and safety Corey Lambert Jr., said the team has a special feeling to it, but will ultimately be judged by its level of success in the fast-approaching playoffs.
Here are a few of the standouts from the matchup:
2021 Recruiting Class
Maason Smith Maason Smith 6'5" | 300 lbs | DL Terrebonne | 2021 State LA — 6-5, 300 DL — Terrebonne
The contest was a frustrating night overall for the Tigers, and Brother Martin did its best to start that process with the big LSU target on the defensive line. Smith battled double teams — or more — for much of the night on that side of the ball, but stayed flexible with frequent switches of positioning up front and found his way into the backfield on a few occasions. He also came in on offense and performed well at left tackle, dominating blocks to help Terrebonne find rushing yards behind him.

Chavez Brown Chavez Brown 6'1" | 200 lbs | ATH Terrebonne | 2021 State LA — 6-1, 200 ATH — Terrebonne
One of the state’s more versatile and underrated prospects benefitted from all the attention paid his fellow senior. Particularly working in an outside linebacker position, Brown found room to operate. He got into the backfield on a few plays early, playing a major role in the Crusaders’ slow start offensively before they capitalized on a takeaway to get onto the scoreboard. He has made his share of plays in coverage and as a wide receiver, but his work in the box and his physical tackling provided his most memorable moments in this contest.

2022 Recruiting Class
Corey Lambert Jr. — 6-0, 180 DB — Brother Martin
The Crusaders’ early spark came in the form of an interception by the elder of the two Lambert brothers, who returned the ball into great starting field position to set up a touchdown. Corey Jr. worked all over the field from his safety spot to play a big role in Brother Martin’s stingy defensive effort with both his coverage and his work in run support.
Garrett Mmahat — 6-2, 175 QB — Brother Martin
The junior quarterback is a grizzled veteran among his peers around the city thanks to his early playing time and has continued to get better with age, extra work and his strides in comfort, confidence and recognition. Mmahat stayed in the pocket most of the night and delivered well-placed balls to the weapons around him, including a few deep balls on which he hit his receivers in stride for yards after the catch. Another nice throw rolling to his right and finding Torey Lambert on the sideline was among his other highlights.
Austin Jackson — 5-8, 175 — Brother Martin
Another 2022 prospect was the primary target for Mmahat — particularly on those downfield looks. His three longest receptions alone pushed his total up toward 150 yards on a pair of deep routes up seams and another on which he made a catch in a soft spot over the middle and darted through and past defenders.

Jordan Thomas — 5-10, 190 ATH — Brother Martin
Yet another journey led the way on the ground, as Thomas led the way with 14 carries for 144 yards and two touchdowns in the absence of a pair of his senior teammates. The listed safety safety looked good in the role with his abilities to keep churning for tough yardage, to find and hit his holes to run through and to make defenders miss in space with his quickness.

Jaylin Lucas — 5-9, 160 ATH — Terrebonne
The younger brother of Florida State freshman Ja’Khi Douglas brings the same sort of quickness and electricity to the field that frustrated defenders and intrigued colleges in recent years. Lucas is a slimmer athlete, but has some time to potentially grow a little bit and add a bit more muscle. In the meantime, he’s consistently showing the footwork and speed that make him a threat any time he touches the football. Even in a difficult matchup for Terrebonne, he managed to break away for a touchdown return of the second-half kickoff for his team’s only score and helped provide most of the Tigers’ best offensive highlights with his work at running back.

2023 Recruiting Class
Torey Lambert — 5-11, 186 ATH — Brother Martin
The younger of the Lambert brothers primarily plays cornerback and running back at the moment and did a nice job in each role, helping the Crusaders’ stingy defensive efforts, complementing Thomas in the backfield and scoring two touchdowns and hauling in the aforementioned sideline reception on Mmahat’s rollout to escape pressure.

Kai Brown — 6-3, 220 DL — Brother Martin
The young defensive end was one of the best-looking football players on the field during warmups and is going to be a fun prospect to watch develop over the next few years. He did a nice job helping contain the Terrebonne rushing attack most of the night and showed his ability to keep after plays, like the one below, as they developed.
