Each of these players has game changer abilities to impact the flow of the game in tremendous ways whether this is on offense, defense, or on special teams.
Jayden Cook #2 (WR, RB) – Lincoln-Way East – Class of 2023
Cook is going to be a great asset to Lincoln-Way East in the years to come. He has breakaway speed topped with his great acceleration causes him to be a big-play machine. He is a North/South runner over an East/West runner and reads his blocks well. He is a deep threat at receiver with his nasty fade route and his ability to high point the ball. Cook’s playmaking abilities set himself up to moss players on the deep ball and getting touchdowns either at running back or receiver. He will be a name to keep an eye out for in the next few years on this football team.
Malyk Jones Malyk Jones 5'10" | 215 lbs | LB Homewood-Flossmoor | 2022 State IL #44 (MLB, OLB) – Homewood Flossmoor – Class of 2022
Jones is a name that has gotten recognition with his time spent in the USA Developmental league. He is a downhill defender where his strengths lie in his run-stopping ability. His read and react time is quick allowing him to get good pursuit of the ballcarrier. He has the ability to blow up plays with his playmaking abilities and high motor. This upcoming season be on the lookout for Jones as he looks to top his previous season’s totals.
Ty Schultz Ty Schultz 5'11" | 200 lbs | RB Lockport | 2022 State IL #41 (RB) – Lockport Township – Class of 2022
Schultz will be a household name for Lockport with his time on varsity. Last season he had 654 total rushing yards, 5.1 yards per carry, 129 carries for 81.8 yards per game, and 7 touchdowns. Schultz has great speed and acceleration causing him to be shifty and elusive against defenders. He is a North/South runner and is good in the passing game. Once he gets the edge there is no catching him especially with his speed that allows him to zoom past the 2nd level of defenders. He has a nice juke move that freezes defenders and breaks arm tackles with ease. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Schultz improving on his stats from a season ago and astonishing everyone in the conference with what he can do.
Kevin Zimmer Kevin Zimmer 6'3" | 230 lbs | QB Sandburg | 2022 State IL #46 (QB, TE) – Sandburg – Class of 2022
Zimmer is going to be one of the top QBs in this conference while he is on varsity. He has a nice touch on his deep and medium passes that they look like they’re floating in the air as they make their way down into the receiver’s basket. He throws a tight spiral and has solid footwork while in the pocket. Zimmer is mobile and isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder to play through contact. He does look to pass first and runs as a last resort or if it is a designed run play for him. Zimmer has good acceleration and with his time spent a tight end he can block as well as catch the ball. Zimmer will look to be the starting QB for Sandburg for the coming years and don’t be surprised if you see his name in the newspaper week in and week out.
Jackson Garfield #59 (T, G) – Bolingbrook – Class of 2022
Garfield is an amazing player that doesn’t always get the recognition that he deserves. He sets the edge for his running backs by driving his legs and dominating his opponent at the line of scrimmage. When Garfield down blocks he has the ability to pancake his opponent and works towards the second level. On counter plays he pulls since he is a great lead blocker and pancakes defenders left and right that get in his way. In the passing game, he holds his one mono v mono without any help from his fellow lineman. Having a player on your team that can be dominant on the offensive line is something that is underrated and not talked about enough on football teams. Garfield definitely has the potential to play at the next level if he chooses to.
These players look to make an impact with their time at the Varsity level and help their team win the State Championship. Keep an eye on these names, they will be household names in this conference and at the next level.
