Each of these players has game changer abilities to impact the flow of the game in tremendous ways whether this is on offense, defense, or on special teams.
Cory Fulkerson #47 (MLB, DE) – Lincoln-Way Central – Class of 2021
Fulkerson had 29 total tackles (25 solo), 5.8 tackles per game, and 1 TFL in his time on varsity last season. He gets good pressure on the QB with his elusiveness evading blocks. His strength is in the run fit, he is a run stopper over a coverage linebacker. He is a solid tackler who wraps up and drives the opponent to the ground. Fulkerson looks to use this momentum for another good season.
Justin Harris #36 (RB, CB) – Lincoln-Way West – Class of 2022
Harris has a good hip turn allowing him to stay with receivers when they break off their routes. He is not afraid to put his shoulder down and hit the defender as well as squares up for tackles. He does not typically get beat on routes but if he does he has good speed to catch up in coverage especially since he plays through the receiver and not the ball. Harris is also utilized in the return game and is very shifty when he does so. Don’t be surprises if be brings one to the house this upcoming season.
Detric Dee #4 (RB, MLB) – Bradley Bournonnais – Class of 2022
Dee is a newcomer to Varsity and has a high potential to be a household name in the area. He has the speed to get past the 2nd level with ease along with a good stutter step to throw off defenders’ pursuit angles. Dee is more of a North/South runner than an East/West and this is seen with the Outside-In rushing attack that Bradley Bourbonnais displays with Dee. He gets in the backfield on defense blowing up plays and is a hard hitter when doing so. Dee has a lot of potentials to become a star on this team, don’t be shocked if that happens sooner than later.
Joe Calacci #9 (WR, LB) – Stagg – Class of 2023
Calacci is one of the younger talents on this list but he deserves his spot. With his season last year, he easily stood out on film and it was evident he was a big part of the game plan each time. He easily breaks defenders at the top of the route which allows him to get open. His fade is killer because he is 6’0 and is prestigious at high pointing the ball. He can make the tough catches over defenders and is a very hard runner which is shown by him breaking arm tackles left and right. It’s no surprise that Calacci will find himself on the varsity roster, he is an exemplary player who might have a breakout season.
Ryan Baier #29 (SS, RB) – Andrew – Class of 2022
Baier is going to be a solid player for Andrew this season. He is a good tackler knowing how to lay the boom on defenders. He has a good blitz off the edge which gives him the ability to blow up plays. On offense, he is more of an East/West runner over a North/South one with speed to get past the 2nd level of defenders. Baier also is utilized in the passing game here and there showcasing his catching abilities. He plays hard each and every down with his high motor. I’m excited to see what Baier does this season and how much of an impact he makes with his time on varsity.
The red division will have to look out for these players as they will be key players in the game plans week in and week out. I wouldn’t be surprised to see any of these players play at the next level once their high school careers are over.
