Defensive wins championships, and Snowflake High school proved it, as they were able to win the 3A state championship and put a handful of players on this list. With the some of the toughest, most gritty kids in the state, take a look at the 2020 All Northern Arizona Defense:
DPOY Terren Green, LB/RB, Snowflake HS (C/O 2021): Green was 4th in the state and #1 in 3A with 121 tackles, 68 of them solo. Green is an instinctual LB and reacts to the ball fast, and is strong at the POA. He did a great job of meeting ball carriers at the LOS and shows to be a promising NAIA-D2 prospect with solid potential.
DL Jonathan Justice Jonathan Justice 6'4" | 220 lbs | DL Lake Havasu | 2021 State AZ , Lake Havasu HS (C/O 2021): Justice was a feared pass rusher with excellent length and quickness and also showed the ability to cover ground well.
DL Payson Cardon, Snowflake HS (C/O 2021): Cardon was a nightmare off the edges as he led 3A in sacks with 13. His overall athleticism made him a huge mismatch against OT’s, and shows solid position versatility at the next level.
DL Andrew Rodriguez, River Valley HS (C/O 2021): Rodriguez was a solid pass rusher as he racked up 9 sacks on the year.
DL Raul Martinez, Mohave HS (C/O 2022): Martinez is a very aggressive player with violent hands. He showed a very quick initial get off and is strong at the POA.
DL Donald DelMonaco, Lee Williams HS (C/O 2021): DelMonaco did a good job shedding blocks and shows solid size at 6’4″ 220lbs and has potential for versatility along the DL.
LB Nate Wright, Prescott HS (C/O 2021): Wright was a big contender for DPOY. He was the best all-around athlete in Northern Arizona, and plays violent with a high motor. He fills alleys well, shows good closing speed, and a good striking ability. He doesn’t hold any offers yet, and is a player to offer ASAP.
LB Collin Knight, Chino Valley HS (C/O 2021): Knight was a fly around player and averaged 15 tackles per game in 7 games played for 3A Chino Valley.
LB Manuel Cardoza, Coconino HS (C/O 2021): Cardoza racked up 10 TFL’s, and showed excellent reaction and short area quickness, and utilized this well to attack ball carriers behind the LOS often.
LB Collin Doucette, Flagstaff HS (C/O 2021): Doucette showed to be a very balanced LB, as he led Flagstaff in tackles with 85, and also posed to be effective dropping into coverage.
LB Cooper Ervien, Show Low HS (C/O 2022): Ervein had a short season, but showed solid play reaction and established himself as a big striker, making him a threat between the tackles for run support.
DB Brayden Nelson, Prescott HS (C/O 2021): Nelson was a ball hawk as he was able to snag 4 INT’s and turn two of those into pick six’s. Nelson has good closing speed, aided in run support, and an excellent nose for the ball.
DB Ryson Stuart, Snowflake HS (C/O 2021): Stuart was a scrappy DB and was able to snag 5 INT’s. He did a great job punching through the ball to force PBU’s, including a TD saving PBU in the state championship.
DB Angelo Alveraz, Mingus HS (C/O 2022): Alveraz is a sneaky upcoming DB. He has an impressive nose for the ball with good ball skills with solid overall athleticism. He is a sneaky D3 type player to get on your radar as a 2022 ATH.
