This particular class, you see a lot of the same teams make consecutive appearances to the State Tournament, and then you have the Cinderella teams. A lot of good teams in this class made it hard to select the Top Three, again picking the teams on opinion, and rankings. Here are the three teams:
Minneapolis North Polars (6-1): The Polars finished Runner-up last year and were definitely hungry to get back to the Prep Bowl. Minneapolis North has three athletes already committed to Division 1 schools and are loaded with more athletes with potential to do the same. The Polars had been averaging 33 points a game on offense and giving up 11 points on defense.
QB- Zach Yeager Zach Yeager 6'2" | QB Minneapolis North | 2021 State MN is a very mobile QB with a strong arm. He really helped the offensive flow and made everything run smooth with him directing. He has speed, agility, and makes good decisions.
RB- Terrance Kamara Terrance Kamara 5'9" | RB Minneapolis North | 2021 State MN always made sure the defenses respected the run game, if they slept on him for one play, there’s six points for the Polars. He is very speedy and shifty with great vision to get into open space.
OL/DL- John Collins Jr. John Collins Jr. OL Minneapolis North | 2021 State MN is a good drive and pass blocker, once he’s latched on to a defender, it’s over for them. Defensively, he powers through defenders and gets into the backfield easily. I’d say he has a lot of potential with a very high ceiling at the next level given the chance.
Blue Earth Buccaneers (7-0): The Bucs have always been a well coached team, this year may have been their best year yet, with the athleticism and experience of the team. Plenty of team speed, lots of strength across the board and always well-disciplined. They averaged 44 points a game on offense and gave up 10 points a game defensively.
WR/DB- Cameron Anderson is a playmaker anywhere; WR, DB, KR and PR. Made plays in short or long fields, and defensively flew around the field as a ballhawk. He has all kinds of speed, hands, and is not afraid of contact.
QB- Gavin Storbeck was a good catalyst in the explosive offense, he threw the ball around the field, could run for some yardage, and put the ball where it needed to be. He has a good arm, accurate and speed in the run game.
OL/DE- Luke Mertens is an excellent run and pass blocker, he can pull and get downfield on down-blocks, really punishes defenders. Defensively, is quick to get around blocks, but can also bull-rush through them too. Stays low, has good hand technique, and keeps his feet moving.
Barnesville Trojans (7-0): The Trojans have made the regular trips to the State Tournament and were on pace for another appearance. They had a solid run game, with speed and misdirection, and could throw the ball as needed, defensively were stacked pretty tight too. The Trojans were averaging 43 points a game on offense, and giving up 14 points a game defensively.
QB/DB- Adam Tonsfeldt ran the offense to a T again, with great fakes the defense rarely ever knew where the ball was until it was too late. He also threw a good ball to some talented receivers as well.
RB/LB- Aaron Schiefert is very physical on both sides of the ball, good lead blocker for the run game. Defensively, he fought through blocks and made some hard hits on tackles.
OL/LB- Jonny Robideau is a very good run blocker, taking down the other team’s interior linemen to open up seams. Defensively was a good guy to send on a blitz, he timed snaps perfectly, and made the big tackle for loss.
