Carrell announced Tuesday night that he had committed to Pac-12 school Washington State.
He had been committed to Baylor for several months before decommitting from the Bears on Dec. 6. But now he’ll be playing his major college football on the Palouse in southeastern Washington.
“I was just trying to find a school that had a good education and wanted to develop me to my fullest potential,” Carrell told Prep Redzone New Mexico. “I committed too early to Baylor, but luckily WSU didn’t stop recruiting me. They actually started talking to me before Baylor. I’m happy and can’t wait to get to Pullman. I’m feeling blessed with the opportunity.”
Carrell is expected to sign with Washington State on Wednesday.
“They had wanted me when I committed to Baylor and then kept talking to me,” Carrell said. “After I decommitted from Baylor they didn’t know if they had a spot until yesterday. Thankfully, they did.”
Because the state of New Mexico postponed the high school football season to the spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Carrell’s last game action came in the fall of 2019.
Besides Baylor, Carrell also attracted interest from Texas Tech. New Mexico State offered on Dec. 3.
Prep Redzone New Mexico ranks Carrell as the No. 2 prospect in the state for the 2021 class.
Carrell boasts 34-inch arms and a wing span of a 6-foot-9 person. His pledge gives WSU 17 commits going into the start of the Early Signing Period on Wednesday.
