Continue ReadingThis past weekend in Rome, dozens of the best high school football prospects in Georgia arrived for the annual Georgia Elite Classic showcase.
Players were divided between grade levels, went through testing and participated in two days of practice prior to Sunday’s games. The juniors played the seniors, the sophomores against the freshmen and the event served as a stepping stone for many players heading into their offseason training regiments.
Here’s a look at the best juniors at the three-day event:
BEST OF THE BEST
Rawson MacNeill Rawson MacNeill 6'6" | 195 lbs | WR Walton | 2022 State GA – WR — Macneill looked the part during practice on Saturday and was the most outstanding offensive player on Sunday. With elite size (6’5”, 190), Macneill moves like a player much smaller and had the best hands at the showcase. A perfect target for jump balls outside the numbers, Macneill also showed his speed and ball skills more than once. Currently holds six offers including Iowa State, UNC Charlotte, Princeton, Yale and Penn. I’d expect his recruiting to take a significant uptick in 2021 as he looks like one of the best wide receivers in the state of Georgia for the 2022 class. Finished Sunday’s game with a game-high five receptions for 113 yards with two scores.

Mykell Williams – DE — Amongst other all-stars, Williams stuck out immediately. Williams was impressive from an outside pass rush position. At 6-foot-5, 255 pounds, Williams’ first step, strength and reach off the line caused problems for nearly all linemen he went against. With more than 25 offers from most of the best schools in the country, Williams will likely be one of the better recruits for whichever schools he signs with next fall. He finished Sunday’s game with a team-high 8 tackles and a game-high 3.5 tackles for loss along with 1.5 sacks.
A lot dudes out there at the @GAEliteClassic today.
@MykelW_50 may have been the most impressive. Looking forward to seeing him go full speed tomorrow.
Holds offers from Bama, Clemson, Georgia, Florida, LSU, Ohio State and ND among many others. pic.twitter.com/34AxQaVQ2w

A.J. Swann A.J. Swann 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Cherokee | 2022 State GA – QB — Swann was clearly the best pure passer among all quarterbacks at the showcase. Coming off a high school season where he passed for 2,500 yards and 23 touchdowns, this three-star recruit continues to be one of the more underrecruited signal callers in the southeast in my opinion. Can make throws to every level and continues to improve his mobility and decision making. He finished Sunday’s game 8-for-10 passing for a game-high 115 passing yards with one touchdown and one interception. Received a scholarship offer from Maryland later in the week and currently holds offers from Kent State, Massachusetts and Troy.
Daniel Martin Daniel Martin 6'3" | 190 lbs | LB Marietta | 2022 State GA – LB — A impressive athlete at the linebacker position, Martin (6’3”, 190) showed why he’s been on recruiter’s radars since his sophomore season. Martin projects as a possible hybrid outside linebacker at the next level and showed playmaking ability in both pass coverage and run support. Already a four-star recruit, Martin finished with five tackles in Sunday’s game and is one of the best linebackers in the class of 2022. Holds offers from 14 offers including Clemson, Georgia, Florida, LSU and Auburn among others.
Keith Adams Jr. Keith Adams Jr. 5'10" | 195 lbs | RB Cherokee | 2022 State GA . – RB — Adams looked like the best overall running back at the showcase. Finished his junior season among the leading rushers in the state (1,323 yards with 15 touchdowns) and finished with a team-high 58 yards on Sunday. Powerfully built with a surprising burst, Adams regularly requires several defenders to bring him down and is quickly climbing up the recruiting rankings. A three-star recruit, he currently holds offers from South Florida, Middle Tennesse State and Georgia Southern. Also holds a grayshirt offer from Clemson.
Ryan Purves – OL — Among a competitive group of lineman, Purves stood out with his strength and athleticism. This rising senior measured well physically (6’3”, 300) and showed above-average ability in clearing space and driving his defender. Has drawn attention from Ivey League schools and could be a good find for a Power 5 program.
Watching the inside session may have been my favorite part of the day.
A couple nice lead blocks here, with @keithadamsjr3 letting the bigs set it up. @GAEliteClassic pic.twitter.com/WWLwassvJ5

Cole Spence – TE — With impressive size (6’5”, 220), Spence looks like a legitimate next-level prospect. He projects as an excellent receiving option and has the frame to continue to add strength. Showed excellent hands in practice and caught what was the winning touchdown in Sunday’s game. I’d expect his college offer list to increase in 2021.
