From upsets to 4 overtime thrillers, the 6A Division 2 playoffs have giving us entertainment throughout. We are now moving towards the Regional rounds and the matchups are set to be even better than the last round. Teams are equally matched and and this round is slated to give us an ectra gift for the holidays.
Abilene Eagles (7-4) vs Guyer Wildcats (9-2) 12/26 3:15 p.m.
Abilene has been on fire recently, winning 6 games in a row. The Eagles has come into the playoffs on a mission, with an upset win first round vs Eastwood, and a very hard fought 12-7 win vs North Crowley. The Eagles are managing to do the right things on the field and are being rewarded for it. Their offense on the season is averaging 32 points per game while their defense is allowing 24 points.
The Guyer Wildcats are coming off of a 2OT win over Arlington in the second round. They have shown resilience and the ability to win in the tough moments. The Wildcat offense has been able to put 44 points per game on the season and their defense has managed to hold opponents to 26 points per game. Both teams were challenged last round and have shown that they can go the distance. Very evenly matched teams, this game should give us some early fireworks.
VR Eaton Eagles (9-3) vs Prosper Eagles (7-3) 12/26 11 a.m.
Eaton Eagles are coming in on a 3 game win streak and their offense has been impressive. Heavy on the run game, the Eagles offense scores on average 36.4 points per game and rush for an impressive 217 yards per game. Expect to hear the names of senior quarterback Braden St. Ama and senior running back Jahbez Hawkins. The run game is initiated by an incredible offensive line. Defensively, Eaton has held opponents to 19 points per game led by junior linebacker Brock Hayward. The Eagles advanced by defeating San Angelo Central 40-16 in the second round and look to continue their winning ways.
Prosper Eagles defeated a good Bowie team by a score of 28-7 last round and look to put a halt to Eatons current streak. The Prosper Eagles have been dominant in their wins and their offense has stepped up tremendously. On the season, the Eagles averages around 29 points per game and their defense has allowed 23 points per game. It will be a daunting task to stop the Eaton offense but I believe Prosper will be prepared.
Cedar Hill Longhorns (9-1) vs Tomball Memorial Wildcats (11-0) 12/26 4 p.m.
The Cedar Hill Longhorns have had an impressive start to the playoffs. The Longhorn defense has been able to shut out both opponents in the previous rounds, including a second round 45-0 win vs Tyler Legacy. The Longhorn offense has averaged 37 points per game and their defense has managed to hold teams to 14 points per game. The defense will need to be on their best game come Saturday because their opponent is no stranger to putting up points. The Longhorn defense will need to be even better than what they have been thus far.
Tomball Memorial have been on a roll the entire season. The Wildcat offense has shown that they can score at will and it has continued into the playoffs. The offense throughout the season has managed to score an impressive 54 points per game. The Wildcats advanced to this round by defeating Oak Ridge 49-13 and look to continue to score as they please this game. Their defense has been able to hold teams to 32 points per game. The matchup between the Longhorn defense and Wildcat offense will be key this game. Who will get the upper hand and mange to make the plays when needed?
Rockwall-Heath Hawks (9-2) vs Bridgeland Bears (12-0) 12/26 1 p.m.
Rockwall-Heath advanced from a convincing 56-28 win vs Temple second round. The Hawks have shown that they have the offensive fire power to compete with anybody and will keep up no matter who it is. The Hawks have averaged almost 51 points per game and defensively have held opponents to 30 points per game. The Hawks go into this round on a hot 6 game win streak and look to add to that streak.
The Bridgeland Bears have been on a tear from the beginning of the season. The Bears have weapons at almost every position and score at will. Bridgeland offensively averaged 46 points per game and their defense holds their own, allowing only 20 points per game. The Bears are coming off of a wild 4OT (Yes FOUR) win vs Dekaney last round, surviving 47-44. I expect this game to be an offensive shootout and the defense who can manage to get the last stop will win.
Katy Tigers (9-1) vs Shadow Creek Sharks (6-3) 12/26 1 p.m.
Katy are riding a 4 game win streak going into this matchup after defeating Lamar last round by a score of 60-7. The Tigers have an amazing two headed monster in the backfield. Senior Jalen Davis and sophomore Seth Davis have been going crazy this season and I do no think they are going to slow down. The Tigers average over 275 rushing yards a game while also putting up 47 points per game. Defensively, the Tigers are allowing only 10 points per game.
Shadow Creek advanced from a 42-28 victory over King last round and will have to find a way to slow down the Katy run game. The Sharks defense are holding opposing teams to only 15 points per game. The Sharks will have their hands full in this one but they are very capable of getting the momentum shifting stops.
Katy Taylor Mustangs (9-2) vs Clear Falls Knights (7-3) 12/26 7 p.m.
Katy Taylor Mustangs advanced from a 28-13 victory against Heights last round. The Mustangs are scoring close to 30 points a game and the Mustang defense is allowing 20 points per game.
Clear Fall Knights are coming off of a 53-36 win over West Brook in the second round. The Knights average close to 28 points per game but have shown they can put up some points in their last few games. Defensively, the Knights are allowing 19 points per game. This is one of those very evenly matched games that may go to the wire.
Vandegrift Vipers (9-2) vs Brennan Bears (10-1) 12/26 2 p.m.
The Vandegrift Vipers won a hard fought game last round, 14-7 vs SA Roosevelt. The Vipers are scoring 30 points per game and have played well on defense, holding teams to only 10 points per game.
The Brennan Bears defense has allowed only 3 points this post season. The Bears are only allowing 10 points per game and they will play a valuable role in this matchup. Their offense can score with ease and will be looking to continue their dominance come Saturday. This will be another game to keep an eye on due to how even they match up on paper.
Taft Raiders (8-3) vs Hays Rebels (8-3) 12/24 1 p.m.
The Taft Raiders advanced from a forfeit victory last week and are itching to get back on the field to continue their playoff run. The Raiders are scoring close to 27 points a game and defensively have held opposing teams to 18 points per game.
The Hays Rebels won their second round game by a score of 35-31 vs Johnson. The Rebels will need their defense to step up again this round, and hold the Raiders just as they have this post season. The offense will need to be big in order to advance. This should be another evenly matched game but what else would we expect in this Regional round.
