The athletes here are guy who have been a quarterbacks best friend on the season, and who have used their skills and talents to make defenses look non existent. These receivers are guys who I believe deserve to be recognized. Without camps and the usual exposure, it is tough to come across guys like this who can provide a spark to a program.
Corban Cleveland, Rockwall-Heath – Cleveland is a reliable target with great hands. Very good drive out of stance and has a great feel for his surroundings. Cleveland’s awareness is a major standout. He recognizes where he is on the field at all times. He breaks zone coverages by finding the open spots and provides a safe target for his quarterback. Cleveland has proven to be a mismatch one on one versus anybody. Out of the slot position, his game is lethal. Cleveland shows his quickness and acceleration off the line and can run by a pressing defender with ease. Cleveland also shows the ability to adjust his body and to make difficult catches. He has a great catch radius which makes it that much easier to throw at him. On the season, Cleveland has 59 receptions for 690 yards, along with 10 touchdowns. Cleveland’s play on the field shows that he can have a future in football and a successful one with the work put in.
Jax Johnson, Rockwell – Johnson is another slot guy who provides a safe option for the quarterback. Out of the slot position, Johnson does the most of his damage. It is difficult for defenses to match up with him and zone coverage is useless. Johnson’s ability to beat defenders makes him a standout. It is not necessarily his speed that does the job, but more of how he positions himself during his routes. Johnson has strong hands and an exceptional ability to run after the catch. Shows some elusiveness on receptions and has no trouble finding the endzone, which he has shown with his 12 touchdowns on the season. Johnson has 817 receiving yards on the season with 46 catches.
Trejon Spiller, Ellison – Spiller is a strong, physical, well framed receiver. He shows excellent skill on high pointing the ball and shows his strong hands in snatching it out of the air. Spiller uses his long strides to get behind the defense and displays his deep threat ability. Excellent at using his body to shield off tight coverage on 50 50 balls. Spiller is just an exciting player to watch. Such a great ability at getting open and taking advantage of his size. Has 54 receptions on the season, and a district leading 1,037 receiving yards to go along with 10 touchdowns. I see him being a valuable piece in the future and growth of Prairie View A&M. Spiller is a baller on the field and he will only continue to get better.
Tyler Williams, Sachse – Williams is a sure handed slot receiver. He possesses the ability to run routes at all 3 levels comfortably and is not afraid of contact. Williams anticipates hits after the catch and has the strength to hold on to the ball. Not many dropped passes seen from him. Williams is a smooth player who gets the job done. Excellent in the short route game, Williams provides a fast option for his quarterback. On broken plays, Williams does a fantastic job of becoming available for his quarterback as well. An overall solid receiver who can be polished into an offensive weapon. For the season, Williams has caught 28 passes for 492 yards, along with 2 touchdowns.
