These are the MVP’s who won awards for being the best at their position and being the best overall at the showcase in their heat.
QB – Ben Monahan
Monahan comes out of Hinsdale Central High School and put on a show highlighting his throwing abilities at the showcase. He put the ball right in the receiver’s basket on deep routes and was accurate on medium routes as well. He showed his footwork in the pocket, set his feet before throwing, and has a nice zip on the ball. Monahan is going to be a solid QB for Hinsdale Central as he continues to improve his skills, and he won QB MVP for wave 1.
TE – Chris Petrucci Chris Petrucci 6'5" | 215 lbs | TE Maine South | 2022 State IL
Petrucci comes out of Maine South High School and he was easily the best tight end at the showcase. His route running is solid, gets in and out of his routes fast, and can adjust quickly to the ball. During one on ones he did a good job of making catches through contact, when being pressed, and on the deep ball. Petrucci won the best TE award for the first wave and he is going to be a deadly weapon as a catching TE.
RB – Deandre Lawrence
Lawrence comes out of East St. Louis High School and he dominated the field of play with his fellow Flyer teammates. Lawrence has solid hands catching out of the backfield and did a good job in the RB vs LB drill. He caused defenders to miss in that drill by utilizing his body control and elusiveness. There was a lot of star running backs in wave one but that didn’t stop Lawrence from winning RB MVP.
LB – Chris Eubanks
Eubanks comes out of Carmel Catholic High School and he made a mark in the RB vs LB drill as well as in coverage during one on ones. He has good footwork ensuring his first step isn’t a false step which allows him to get to the ball faster. Eubanks possesses solid speed which allows him to guard slot receivers and stay hip to hip with them. His combine results were stellar which isn’t surprising and he won LB MVP for wave one.
OL – Paris Patterson Paris Patterson 6'4" | 325 lbs | OL East St. Louis | 2023 State IL
Patterson comes out of East St. Louis High School and is apart of the dominant offensive front the Flyers have. He dominated in the battle of the trenches on the offensive line alongside his teammates. Patterson has good footwork to stay in front of the defenders as they tried to maneuver past him in the drill. He did get beat here and there when getting bull-rushed which is something he can improve upon heading into the season. Patterson stands at 6’2″ with solid size to him, he won OL MVP for wave one and is a force to be reckoned with on the offensive line.
DL – TJ McMillen
McMillen comes out of St. Francis High school and had a dominant performance at the showcase. He went up against OL at the showcase and didn’t back down from the challenge beating them on a few occasions. During the OL vs DL drill, he made it look too easy at times getting past the lineman using a mixture of a bull rush, swim move, and spin move. McMillen has a mixture of moves in his utility box that creates problems for offensive linemen blocking him in the passing game and he won best defensive lineman at the camp.
OVERALL – Melvin Priestly
Priestly comes out of East St. Louis High School and is a dominant force on the offensive line who last season won the state title. He was the best offensive lineman at the camp winning MVP during the first wave of players. Priestly held his own against all of the defensive linemen that he went up against and only got beat once by TJ McMillen when they went head to head towards the end of the OL vs DL drill. Overall, whoever gets Priestly at the next level is going to be lucky with how talented he is and his mindset of wanting to go up against the top players time and time again.
QB – Hayden Timosciek
Timosciek comes out of Lockport High School and he’s a tall QB coming in at 6’6″ 225 lbs. I’ve scouted him before and he is even better in person, he has a nice touch on the deep ball putting it right into the receiver’s basket, and can put a zip on the ball. Timosciek is one of many talented players on Lockport’s Junior class that is coming off of an undefeated season on the sophomore level. He looks to develop himself further heading into the season and won QB MVP for wave two.
WR – Kaleb Brown Kaleb Brown 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB St. Rita | 2022 State IL
Brown comes out of St. Rita High School and it’s no surprise to see his name on this list. He is ranked the best player of the 2022 class in Illinois, and he didn’t disappoint. Brown has quick feet which helps his release when he’s being pressed and can stack defenders with ease. He has deadly speed that if taken for granted will cause him to burn you deep. Brown is one of three WR to win MVP in wave two for the position.
WR – Carnell Tate Carnell Tate 6'2" | 170 lbs | WR IMG Academy | 2023 State FL
Tate comes out of Marist High School and he showed out during the showcase, he’s in the class of 2023 yet went head to head with top players in the 2022 class. Tate has solid hands with good route running abilities, he stacks defenders, and can make the catch in traffic. He was the second of three to win WR MVP in wave two and is going to be a sight to see this upcoming season for Marist.
WR – Myles Walton
Walton comes out of Homewood-Flossmoor High School and is one that came to play at the showcase. He was all business and to no surprise went head to head with top defensive backs at the showcase. I’ve scouted Walton before the showcase and it was great to see him live in action. Once he makes the catch he plants his foot to get upfield and is elusive/shifty making defenders miss tackles. Walton was the third WR to win MVP for the position in wave two and he is going to be a name to keep an eye on for Homewood-Flossmoor the next few years.
DB – Lamar Box Lamar Box 6'1" | 180 lbs | DB East St. Louis | 2022 State IL
Box comes out of East St. Louis High School and he was a sight to see at the showcase. He came in at 6’1″ 170 lbs, for a defensive back that is stellar. Box has good fluid movement with his hip turns and can stay with receivers one on one with his speed. His reaction time is quick which allows him to jump routes making a play. Box won DB MVP in wave two and is going to be a strong piece holding down the Flyer’s secondary this season.
OVERALL – Khary Shaw
Shaw comes out of Brother Rice High School standing at 6″2′ 202 lbs. He runs a 4.6 40 yard dash, has a 33.2″ vertical, and was a sight to see at the showcase. I’ve scouted Shaw before the showcase and seeing him in action was bitter-sweet. He has solid re-routing abilities by getting hands-on at the line of scrimmage messing up the timing of the route with the QB. In coverage, he is able to stay hip to hip with the receiver not allowing himself to get stacked and broken off at the top of the route. There were many high profile names that were in wave two for the showcase that this award could have gone to, Shaw differentiated himself from the pack and won overall MVP for wave two.
These players earned awards for their performance at the showcase. They all are phenomenal talents that have the skillset to play at the next level. It was great to see these athletes compete with one another as they long for their season to start.
