Class 6A Three Rivers League Special District 5
Head Coach- Jimmy Joyce (2nd year)
Offensive System- Multiple Spread
Defensive System- 4-2-5 Hybrid Zone
Coming into his second season with the Canby Cougar football program, Head Coach Jimmy Joyce is looking to rebuild from last year’s 2-7 team. They will have one of the toughest schedules around with plenty of competition in one of the top conferences in the state. That being said, Coach Joyce has some excellent talent to move ahead in 2021 and will get better each day. These 9 names are my top Junior and Senior prospects on the Canby High School roster.
Class of 2021
Chance Miller Chance Miller 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Canby | 2021 State OR – Senior- Wide Receiver- 5’11 175 lbs.
Miller is a verbal commit to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Has all the tools you looking for as a college receiver or tailback. The explosive first step, fast game speed, and versatility make him one of the top prospects in the state. Hard-working and coachable, he could play defensive back as well. Great hands and field vision as a ball carrier. Good route runner. Smart player and a great student. A talented athlete who projects to play college at the U.S.A.F.An in the FBS/Mountain West Conference.
Tyler Need- Senior- Tailback/Slot Receiver/ Free Safety-6’2 200 lbs.
With a long frame and solid body type, Tyler has the potential to grow more physically and add to his size. A ball hawk in the defensive backfield with excellent coverage and zone skills. Can play man to man press up at the line of scrimmage with his speed and jam up receivers physically. Plays safety with aggression. Great ball carrier on offense, who makes plays and lines up all over the field in different positions.Offensive game changer. Solid hands and quick feet. 4.0 student. A smart and highly coachable prospect who projects to be an FCS prospect due to lack of film and FBS offers.
Kaenan Boyd-Senior- Tight End/Wide Receiver- 6’4 220 lbs.
Boyd has great size for a Vertical threat Y Tight End. Multiple sport athlete who wrestles in the winter. Strong, physical, can block well out of multiple tight end sets and run through tacklers. Good hands and speed to stretch the ball downfield. Great route-runner who gets off of coverage and finds space to get open. Great student, smart. 3.8 GPA. Projects to be an FCS Tight end or Division 2-3 Wide Receiver.
Sturgeon Anderson- Senior- Offensive Tackle/Guard- 6’5 345 lbs.
Size and strength are a major upside for Sturgeon. A great story of perseverance, he has come a long way academically and improved his character on and off the field. Has good feet for a player his size, and moves quite well. Still raw and early in his football and academic development, his upside is very strong and full of potential. Strong, good hands who could develop into a prototype offensive tackle. Still needs work learning the game and getting a feel for his position. Projects to be a JUCO of NAIA prospect with FBS upside.
Class of 2022
Mikey Gibson- Junior- Quarterback- 6’2 200 lbs.
After starting 5 games for the Cougars as a Sophomore in 2019, Gibson is now ready to take the job full time. A solid all-around athlete who runs and moves very well. Strong Arm, Good touch, and accuracy. 14-1 touchdown to interception ratio in ’19. Could develop into an elite prospect with another productive season. Good size and body frame to develop. Hard-working and smart. Picks up blitzes and makes the right corrections and checks at the line of scrimmage. Projects to be an FBS/FCS prospect with high upside.
Clayton Langdale-Junior- Offensive Line/Defensive Line- 6’3 255 lbs. The Langdale twins are two of the top lineman in the highly competitive Three Rivers League. Productive, talented, and hard-working. Clayton is strong with good speed and has a high football IQ. Smart, physical player who makes plays consistently against the offensive backfield. Gets off of blocks fast with explosion and pop. A highly coachable prospect who projects as an FBS/FCS Defensive End/ Outside Linebacker.
Casey Langdale-Junior- Offensive Line/Defensive Line- 6’3 255 lbs.
Casey is the same size as Clayton and plays with equal talent and production. One of the top linemen in the conference, Langdale could play either side of the ball and produce the same results. Strong, Big, and fast, Casey is an imposing player that works tirelessly to develop. Good hand and eye coordination and high football IQ. Team Leader. Excellent lower and upper body strength. Projects to be an FBS/FCS Defensive End/ Outside linebacker. Possibly tackle at Division 2-3, NAIA level.

Matt Soles- Junior- Slot Receiver/Scat Back- 5’10 130 lbs.
Soles has the potential to play college football despite his low weight and small body frame. He has the height at 5’10 to keep growing physically and with work in the training room and nutrition could put on the weight needed to play at the next level. His football skills translate to college. Explosive runner and playmaker with the ball in his hands. Finds open space and gets upfield quick. Highly athletic running back/slot receiver who has moved around as an offensive weapon to create mismatches against defenders. A productive athlete who projects as a Division 2-3, NAIA prospect with enough skill to develop into an FBS/FCS project.
