After having multiple next-level opportunities from PWO opportunities at the Division I level to multiple offers across numerous college football divisions, Yankton Bucks RB Corbin Sohler Corbin Sohler 5'11" | 200 lbs | RB Yankton | 2021 State decided to stay home and start a legacy at an upstart program right here in Yankton at Mount Marty College. We chatted with Corbin about his decision and what went into it in one of our first commitment reports on the site.
Q: What impacted your decision to sign with the Lancers?
Sohler: In the end, I wanted to play football close to home, and Mount Marty gave me the opportunity to do that. I felt that the coaching staff not only cared about me as a football player but also as a person. The hiring of Grand View HC Mike Woodley played a large role in my decision, as Woodley is no stranger to starting up a new football program in NAIA, doing the same 11 years ago at Grand View in Des Moines, Iowa.
Q: Was there any other football programs in the mix in your recruitment?
Sohler: I had multiple opportunities to play football just about at any level, but to me, it was more about the fit Mount Marty offered that sold me on the Lancers, which impacted me to commit to Mount Marty.
Q: Has the coaching staff chatted with you on what position you will play?
Sohler: Yes, they are looking to keep me at running back, which is exactly where I wanted to play at the college level.
Q: What was the biggest “draw” to the Lancers coaching staff?
Sohler: Having Coach Woodley take over the program was a huge draw to me. Knowing his reputation for building an upstart program drew me to Mount Marty. Because Mount Marty is a new NAIA program, I would get to be apart of its “history” as they lay the groundwork for college football in Yankton.
Q: Do you have any alumni or friends that attend Mount Marty that influenced your decision to go there?
Sohler: Yes, my teammate at Yankton WR Rex Ryton was apart of the first recruiting class the Lancers had this year, and DB Justin Cap, who is the first Yankton Bucks to commit to the new program. The Lancers also added Sohler’s teammates, Brodey Peterson Brodey Peterson 5'10" | 195 lbs | DL Yankton | 2021 State , Trevor Fitzgerald Trevor Fitzgerald 6'1" | 195 lbs | ATH Yankton | 2021 State , to their 2021 recruiting class. The Lancers also added OL Mitch Herrboldt of Sioux Falls Lincoln to their South Dakota heavy class of 2021.
Q: 5) What’s the biggest thing you are looking forward to at the next level at a new program?
I look forward to continuing to play football in the City of Yankton. I am also looking forward to learning from a new coaching staff.
Congratulations to Corbin Sohler Corbin Sohler 5'11" | 200 lbs | RB Yankton | 2021 State of the Yankton Bucks on his commitment to Mount Marty! Go, Lancers!
