These players have shown the ability to lead their teams from the beginning of the season until the playoffs began. We will continue to highlight players as the playoffs pick up steam and continue to the State Championship Games.
2021 – Austin Smith, QB, Cedar Grove
This is a name to keep your eyes on. He willed his team in the next round of the GA (AAA) State Playoffs, which will be the quarterfinals. An early commitment to Eastern Michigan, he is an Athlete who leads by example on and off the field. He had some tough out of the pocket scrambles and led his team in long drives that resulted in touchdowns and the most important thing – A win!!
2021 – Javin Whatley, QB/Athlete, Rockmart
Just look at these numbers. In the first round of the GA (AAA) State Playoffs, he rushed for 264 yards and 3 touchdowns, passed for 94 yards and 2 touchdowns and scored on a 80 yard kickoff return in a thriller and win 48-35. This earned him State of GA player of the week. Whatley one of the most under-rated QB/Athletes in GA, in round two against the #1 ranked team in (AAA) and loaded all of the field with talent, Whatley carried his team into 3 overtime periods before losing a close battle. An Athlete that can run, pass, and at the same time leading his team in stats from the first game of the season against a stacked team with talent in Rome High School. Against elite competition, on Friday night he had 2 touchdowns by the way of the pass and 1 running touchdown (19 yards) in overtime.
2024 – Reece Fountain, QB, Rome
Definitely one of the young premier players in GA and starting quarterback for a storied program that has produced a few elite performers. HIs team lost in the 2nd round of the GA (AAAAAA) State Playoffs, he was 15 of 19 for 90 yards and finished the year with close to 1200 yards passing.
2021 – Carlos Del Rio Carlos Del Rio 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Grayson | 2021 State GA -Wilson, QB, Cartersville
Led his team into the quarterfinals of the GA (AAAAA) State Playoffs. A smart QB, duel threat and a familiar name in football coaching circles and as a NFL player (Del Rio) Del Rio-Wilson is a Florida commitment, had 66 yards rushing and 14 of 22 pass attempts. He is accomplishing a lot with this great program, that has produced QB greats as Trevor Lawrence of Clemson.
2021 – Quante Jennings, RB, Cartersville
This is a player that will be talked about again, as the GA State Playoffs rolls along if the Purple Hurricanes of Cartersville move thru the playoffs. 166 yards rushing, in which he had 142 yards in the 2nd half and 3 touchdowns. He is a tremendous RB but doesn’t have the stats of other athletes in the State of GA. He just wears down defenses with his bruising style of running, getting stronger as the game goes on. Keep an eye on this player in the GA State Playoffs.
2021 – Barrett Carter Barrett Carter 6'1" | 220 lbs | LB North Gwinnett | 2021 State GA , LB, North Gwinnett
Two way starter and committed to Clemson. Look at this stat line, last week had 17 carries for 197 yards and 2 touchdowns, 8 solo tackles for loss, 3 sacks, and a fumble recovery. Enough said, one of the best and top two way players in the State of GA – a 5 star recruit.
