There were plenty of players in class 6A that played great in 2020. Here are the players that made my all state team in 2020.
QB Lem Wash Lem Wash 5'10" | 205 lbs | QB Derby | 2021 State KS Derby
The 6’0 205 lb Senior dual threat QB took over the full time starting role this season and led the Derby Panthers to the 6A state championship. In 2020, he completed 94 of 131 passes for 1,313 yards and 18 TD while rushing for 1292 yards on 193 carries and 20 TD. He sees the field well as he makes multiple reads and possesses a strong, accurate arm as he makes all of the throws. He displays very good mobility as he uses his athletic ability to elude LB, DL to escape pressure while in the pocket and also uses his play speed to outrun DB when in the open field.
RB Devin Neal Devin Neal 5'11" | 210 lbs | RB Lawrence | 2021 State KS Lawrence
The soon to be Kansas Jayhawk was one of the top RB in the state in 2020. In 2020, he rushed for 1,327 yards and 20 TD while catching 13 passes for 200 yards and 2 TD. Once he gets the ball in his hands, he shows great burst through the hole, has the athletic ability to elude defenders while also showing enough power to run over larger defenders. In addition, he is very effective in the passing game as he is a reliable receiver who shows the manual dexterity to make the catch when the ball is thrown out of his strike zone and uses his play speed to accelerate for large gains.
RB Dylan Edwards Dylan Edwards 5'9" | 165 lbs | RB Derby | 2023 State KS Derby
The 5’8 150 lb Sophomore played a huge role in the success of the Derby panthers in 2020. He rushed for 1,833 yards on 206 carries and scored 25 TD while catching 16 passes for 204 yards and 2 TD. He shows great vision as he finds the open hole and is very difficult to stop once he is in the open field due to his excellent athletic ability and play speed. An outstanding blocker who scans the defense for the blitzing defender showing tremendous heart as he uses his leverage as well as his hands to maintain his block against larger LB and DB and uses his very good physical toughness as he finish blocks to the ground.
WR Dorian Stephens Dorian Stephens 6'3" | 185 lbs | ATH Blue Valley | 2021 State KS Blue Valley
The 6’3 190 lb Senior and future Kansas State wildcat created mismatches whenever he stepped on the football field. In 2020, he caught 82 passes for 1,434 yards and 11 TD. He plays as an “X” WR and takes long strides at the snap of the ball as he eats up cushion against man coverage. He uses hip fluidity to separate at the top of the stem as he breaks off at a 45 degree angle on slant routes and 90 degrees on dig and out routes. He uses his play speed and athletic ability to get behind CB on go routes. He uses his football intelligence to find soft spots in zone coverage. He possesses very good manual dexterity as he possesses an outstanding catch radius to bring down passes that are thrown low or well over his head. Uses his very good play speed to outrun DB and LB for large gains.
ATH Dasan McCullough Dasan McCullough 6'4" | 205 lbs | DB Blue Valley North | 2022 KS Blue Valley North
The 6’5 225 lb Junior and Ohio State commit, played a huge role in the success of Blue Valley North in 2020. As a slot WR, he takes long strides to eat up the DB cushion, uses hip fluidity to manipulate the DB while separating and breaks off his stem on a 45 degree angle on slant routes possessing good hands as he makes on target catches with ease. Once he has the ball in his hands, he uses his play strength to break tackles from DB and LB while keeping his balance and uses his athletic ability to gain multiple yards after the catch.
OL Nick Herzog Nick Herzog 6'4" | 270 lbs | OL Blue Valley | 2022 State KS Blue Valley
The 6’4 265 lb Junior was a powerful force on the Tiger offensive line at RT. In pass pro, he keeps a good base, bends at the knee, keeps his feet constantly moving while winning battles with his hands inside against blitzing LB as well as 5T and 4i and uses his balance and play strength to anchor. While run blocking, he fires off the ball at a good pad level, quickly gets his hat across the 4i or 3T while executing a scoop block on the backside cutoff or a 5T on a reach block when blocking playside, shoots his hands quickly and violently with good hand placement and uses his good play strength as well as his physical toughness as he finishes his block to the ground.
OL Tyler Gourley Tyler Gourley 6'2" | 290 lbs | OL Free State | 2022 State KS Lawrence Free State
The 6’2 290 lb Junior was a force on the OL for Free State. He plays as a C for the Firebirds. He is a very good run blocker who quickly gets to the 2nd level for a combo block after double teaming the 1T with the OG on inside zone runs and uses his excellent play strength to throw the LB to the ground with ease. In pass pro, he keeps his feet moving and wins battles against the NT with his hand placement, leverage and play strength as he keeps the QB clean.
OL Luke Zegunis Luke Zegunis 6'0" | 255 lbs | OL Olathe West | 2021 State KS Olathe West
The 6’0 255 lb Senior had an awesome year in 2020. He played predominantly as a RG. At the snap in pass pro, he plays with a good base, bends at the knee and shoots his hands quickly and violently with good placement as he keeps his feet constantly moving. His low pad level and play strength enable him to stand his ground and not get bullrushed into the QB. While run blocking, he quickly gets his hat across the face of the 1T or 3T on scoop and reach blocks while winning battles with his hands and leverage displaying very good physical toughness as he finishes blocks to the ground against DL.
OL Porter Dannevik Porter Dannevik 6'3" | 250 lbs | OL Lawrence | 2021 State KS Lawrence
The 6’3 265 lb Senior played great in 2020. He played for the Lions as a C. While run blocking, he quickly fires out of his stance, plays at a good pad level while bending at the knee, shoots his hands quickly and violently with excellent timing winning battles with his hands inside and uses his excellent physical toughness, tenacity and play strength to finish blocks to the ground consistently against MLB and NT. Shows great athletic ability and play speed to get to the second level on combo blocks and is able to wash the LB and DB out of the play. In pass pro, he keeps his feet moving quickly, striking the LB or NT while playing with great leverage and displays very good anchor ability as he sinks his hips, keeps his balance and does not get driven backwards.
