Nolan DeLong, LB/RB Durant (2023)
I really enjoyed how DeLong ran his routes on the offensive side of the ball on Sunday. DeLong showed off some clutch hands at the running back position as one of the only running backs in this group. DeLong shows a burst that could be a next-level player as he has an excellent vision in between the tackles and then just takes off once he sees his lane for six. A two-way player that has some bounce off tackles that led to 24 touchdowns last season.
Gannon Williams, TE/LB, Marshalltown (2022)
Williams showed some off not only some range but some length in the 1 PM session on Sunday. Excellent next level measurables at 6’4 210 pounds. Williams also has a pretty consistent burst off the snap and is one you can line up just about anywhere. Williams can drive the bus with his blocking ability, making him an ideal fit for the tight end position at the college level. A four-sport super athlete that is getting some FCS attention currently.
Kyle Sisler, WR, Southeast Polk (2022)
Sisler was another standout that I caught a glimpse of on Sunday. Sisler runs excellent routes and is a WR that can press the gas and turn on the brakes quickly on any route. Sisler is a player if you want a first down; he shows great awareness of knowing where that first-down marker is. Sisler could be a sleeper coming from a powerhouse program in Southeast Polk that needs some recognization. JUCO interest thus far. So. Tape
Peyton Rottinghaus, QB, Urbandale (2023)
No questions asked Rottinghaus was the best underclassmen at QB I saw all day in Ames. What stood out to me about Rottinghaus was his arm strength and his poise when in the pocket. Rottinghaus also brought pinpoint accuracy too. When rolling back Peyton’s film, you see a kid that has all the tools to play at the next level. I zoned into his footwork on Sunday and came away very impressed. Rottinghaus also has quality mobility, which will only get even better for this already varsity starter from Urbandale. So. Tape
Darrell Matchem Darrell Matchem 5'9" | 160 lbs | DB Earlham | 2022 State IA , DB/QB, Earlham (2022)
Some kids just pass the eye test when they walk into a tryout, and you just have to watch, and let’s just say Darrell Matchem Darrell Matchem 5'9" | 160 lbs | DB Earlham | 2022 State IA of Earlham was that guy. It started with his tremendous footwork in drills, and that same footwork led to an excellent performance in 1on1s. Matchem was the fastest player in this second session, and I came away impressed with his quick reaction time on going after the ball in coverage. Matchem also is an all-district QB for Earlham, but with his on-ball skills and speed at defensive back, there is no reason this kid shouldn’t be on more college radars this winter and spring as Matchem at this time doesn’t have any interest at the moment. Matchem was the Defensive MVP from Sunday’s 1 PM session.
Graham Friedrichsen Graham Friedrichsen 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Urbandale | 2022 State IA , WR, Urbandale (2022)
The best wide receiver from this group was by far Graham Friedrichsen Graham Friedrichsen 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Urbandale | 2022 State IA of Urbandale. Friedichsen’s length was darn near impossible to stop on Sunday afternoon in Ames. Close to every ball, his way was caught regardless of how well-defended it was, which showed off a kid that can certainly hold his own. Watching Friedrichsen’s film, you see a Divison I talent in the making, as his jets off the snap are second to none. Big deep ball threat that plays with physicality at a high level. Offensive MVP from the 1 PM session. Junior Tape
MORE STANDOUTS
Cole Filloon, WR, Southeast Polk (2022)
Filloon was another solid route runner from Southeast Polk. Looking at Filloon and Sisler on Sunday, the WR coach at Southeast Polk needs a raise! Filloon is a solid attacker up the middle of the field from the Rams.
Cade Walkingstick, QB, Akron-Westfield (2022)
Walkingstick is a gritty, tough quarterback I watched on Saturday with rock-solid deep ball arm strength. With Walkingstick, you get a kid that was in the best of both worlds last season, logging over 1400 passing yards and over 1700 rushing yards for Akron-Westfield. Strong measurables (6’1, 210).
