A Louisiana high school football season once uncertain to even occur will close this week with nine final intriguing matchups.

Northwestern State in Natchitoches will host the LHSAA’s Prep Classic event — as opposed to its usual home at the Superdome in New Orleans — because of concerns related to COVID-19.

But, for all the abnormalities and adjustments, the significance, excitement and levels of talent remain high as ever.

Prep Redzone Louisiana will look at three to seven of each matchup’s remaining unsigned and uncommitted prospects.



Class 3A

No. 2 Union Parish vs. No. 9 Madison Prep

Wednesday, 1 p.m.

Union Parish ended a higher-seeded Madison Prep’s season in last year’s Class 3A quarterfinals.

But both teams have advanced back to their first state championship game since the Farmers’ thrilling, double-overtime title in 2013 and Chargers’ heartbreaking, one-point loss in 2016.

And coaches Joe Spatafora and Landry Williams bring talented rosters with them to Northwestern State in Natchitoches to battle for this year’s crown.

Union Parish wide receiver Dylan Harris committed to nearby Grambling State last month, and Madison Prep athlete signed with Memphis during the early period.
