Lucas Struck, DB/WR, Waukee (2023)
Struck is a two-way player but looked like a next-level defensive back on Sunday afternoon’s 3 PM session. Struck had a great physical ability to compete with some solid running backs and wide receivers in 1on1 drills. Struck was stick like glue despite not being the most sizeable prospect in the group. On film, Struck is a big hitter that should be considered in our 2023 rankings in Iowa.
Jalen Wynter, RB, Mason City (2022)
Wynter showed a whole lot of zip in his step on Sunday afternoon in Ames. Did a solid job on his cutting ability to get open in 1on1 drills. On film, Wynter shows nice vision and can be productive on multiple levels on the inside or bounce outside with his strong burst. Wynter is very much a sleeper coming out of Mason City. Junior Tape
Mohamed Bass Mohamed Bass 5'9" | 170 lbs | DB Des Moines North | 2021 IA , Des Moines North (2021)
Bass did a fantastic job with his jamming ability in his first football action in a while on Sunday. Bass was not only a great jammer, but he showed great range and a quick twitch when pursuit in 1on1 drills. This kid gets it done with his excellent footwork and is also quite fast when he sees green space on the football field. Bass most certainly deserves a chance. Had the city of Des Moines decided to play football this year, I believe he would have more opportunities at the next level as some schools will get really lucky landing Bass. Junior Tape
Kjuan Owens Kjuan Owens 6'0" | 240 lbs | RB Waterloo East | 2022 IA , DB/RB, Waterloo East (2022)
There was not a bigger jammer last Sunday in Ames than Kjuan Owens Kjuan Owens 6'0" | 240 lbs | RB Waterloo East | 2022 IA of Waterloo East. Owens, by far, was the most physical athlete at the 7on7 tryouts. When you watch Owens on film, you see a kid that is an absolute bulldozer at the running back position. Owens gives off Jerome Bettis vibes when you watch his game as it takes an army to drag him down with his power running ability that also has the footwork to shake off defenders. Defensive MVP from Group 4. I would love to see more defensive film from Owens, as I think he will be on a monster for Level Up 7on7 in 2021. Junior Tape
Keith Moko, DB/WR, Newton (2022)
Moko was another prospect that just lit up the room even very early in drills. His big frame (6’2) and high level of burst were what caught my eye. What I like most about Moko’s game is how reactive he is on both sides of the football. Great vertical and some very twitchy feet to get easy space from the secondary. Moko is a big fighter for extra yards and will be a part of Level Up’s 7on7 team in 2021. Somehow has very light Divison I interest, very much a sleeper out of Newton.
MORE STANDOUTS
Zay Arguello, QB, Newton (2022)
The mobility this kid showed off last Sunday is certainly next level material. I really like Arguello’s release when he leaves the pocket as he can make many throws to multiple levels on the field. Arguello is also a big-hitting defensive back, which is another asset to his game. Junior Tape
Kham Middleton, RB, Dowling Catholic (2022)
Middleton was another physical back that has good vision coming out of Dowling Catholic. Standing at 5’11 215 pounds, Middleton is a consistent runner inside that feeds off contact as he has some bounce. Junior Tape
