Early-morning workouts, late-night film sessions and more all come together to make for an interesting time right now.
We’ll do our best to spotlight those still searching for homes here, so feel free to message us any prospects that we miss.
Lex Kassel, Emmetsburg
The primary target for Ben Dunlap, Lex Kassel, was a multi-purpose threat for Emmetsburg this past year. Along with catching 10 passes for an average of nearly 24 yards per game, the 5-foot-10 Kassel shined in the return game.
Kassel handled 13 kickoff returns, averaging nearly 21 yards per return, and 15 puns, posting 12.4 yards per touch there. There is just something special about a player who can deal with the intense conditions of returning kicks. Kassel handles the chaotic very well and has excellent hands.
Jon Nissen, Spencer
When you face a team coached by a Tighe, you know you are going to have to stop the run. Jon Nissen was very, very tough to contain this past year, as the Spencer senior ran for 1,098 yards and 13 touchdowns.
With good power and strength, Nissen also flashed great speed, averaging 7.5 yards per carry. He also hauled in a pair of catches.
Off the edge on defense, Nissen was dangerous, recording three sacks and five tackles for loss. His quick feet allow him to get past offensive lineman with great success.
Sam Fischer, Humboldt
Checking in at 6-foot-2 and over 200 pounds, Sam Fischer is part of that new age of athletic. Also a standout on the basketball court, Fischer’s athleticism allows him to dominate the middle of the field.
Fischer recorded 39.5 tackles including three sacks and eight for loss this past fall. He also has experience lining up at tight end, having averaged 17 yards per catch as a junior.
Tyler Schreier, Fort Dodge
Tyler Schreier can provide an offense with just about anything. As a senior, the Fort Dodge standout caught 48 passes for 714 yards and nine scores, averaging nearly 15 yards per catch. He also had 11 carries for 123 yards and a score.
Excellent speed and great vision, Schreier watches the ball in before taking off to the end zone.
Cole Kelly, West Hancock
A year after being part of a three-headed monster, Cole Kelly took over as the main runner for West Hancock as a senior. He carried the ball 224 times for 1,890 yards and 33 touchdowns despite not playing much in the second half because of the score of the game.
Kelly, though, was also a force on defense with 5.5 sacks and 11.5 for loss off the defensive line. In an “old-school” offense, Kelly would be a great back. He also can help a college program as an edge rusher thanks to his blend of speed and power.
Alex DeRoos, Alta-Aurelia
Despite battling with some injuries, Alex DeRoos had another fine senior season. The Alta-Aurelia standout recorded 19.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks, causing plenty of trouble for opposing offenses.
DeRoos also showed his skills as a rusher over the past few years for the Warriors. Great size and speed, DeRoos has the type of body that could really become a force over the next couple of seasons.
