That would be four-star defensive back, Nyland Green Nyland Green 6'3" | 180 lbs | DB Newton | 2021 State GA . The big-time athlete from Newton High School is one of the top athletes in the country, doing a little bit of everything for the Rams throughout his career. The Rams may not have had the 2020 season that they’ve wanted, but Green proved over and over again why he’s one of the top prospects in the country.
Known as one of the top defensive backs in the country, Green has excellent length with his 6-foot-2 185-pound frame. He can lockdown the opponents top receiver at cornerback, but he’s also known to make plays in every aspect of the game. As a senior this fall, Green recorded 57 tackles, 5 TFLs, 1 sack, 5 INTs, and one defensive touchdown. When opposing QBs threw his way, he made them pay.
On offense, Green caught 42 passes for 838 yards and 12 TDs. He also rushed the ball 21 times for 301 yards and 4 TDs. On special teams, Green returned one kickoff return for a touchdown.
He’ll play defensive back at the next level, but it’s easy to see how dangerous he is with the football. When he has the ball, no matter where he’s playing, he’s going to look for the end-zone. Not only does he have great footwork and fundamentals in coverage, but he’s also tough and knows how to tackle. Many defensive backs can only cover and aren’t able to set the edge on the outside and make a big tackle in the open field. That isn’t the case for Green as he loves contact and enjoys making plays against the run.
Green also plays with confidence and a swagger that coaches love in a defensive back. He wants to line up against the best and shit them down. His length allows him to cover bigger receivers, and he’s fast enough to keep up with speedy receivers down the field. He has a lean frame and needs to continue adding muscle mass, and that will come once he gets into a college strength and conditioning program.
As it stands right now, Green checks all the boxes at defensive back. He has the natural instincts needed for the position, he has the length and size, and he has confidence in his game. He has great ball skills, he runs well, and he’s as technically sound as any defensive back in the state.
So where might Green end up in college?
The top cornerback in Georgia plans to make his decision on Tuesday, December 8th. He’ll likely be decision between Georgia, Clemson, Auburn, and Tennessee. Sources told Prep-Redzone in October that the Tennessee Vols were in the best position to land his commitment, but now sources say this could come down to Georgia and Clemson. Green has been a top target for each program for over a year now, and in a few days the four-star is going to make one program extremely happy.
