Defensively, the Huskies only allowed more than 8 points once this season, which was the 58-35 victory at home vs. Litchfield in a game I was in attendance. We caught up with Huskies run-stuffer Devin Ritter to learn more about his 2020 season, his recruiting trail, and much more!
Get to Know Devin Ritter
Ritter plays offensive guard as well as the big man up the middle on the defensive at DT. Ritter’s strengths on both sides of the football are his quickness off the football and his ability to punch strongly keep him honest for the Albany Huskies.
Ritter’s Favorites at OG/DT
Offensively, Ritter loves to open up big holes on trap plays giving his running backs plenty of room to operate with him in front. On defense, crushing the middle and getting running backs for a loss is his favorite thing on the other side of the football.
The Recruiting Trail
Even though Ritter’s ability to plug up the holes are solid, he somehow does not have a college football home yet. Ritter has been getting recruited by a good-sized list of Northern Sun and MIAC programs, but no one has pulled the trigger quite yet on the 6’2 265 stud who defends the run extremely well and plays quite physical football.
For his elevator pitch to those coaches listening, Ritter had this to say:
I am ready to learn and improve as much as I can wherever I end up playing college football.
Ritter’s Work Ons
Ritter said throughout the years; he’s improved on the mental side of the game of football. “I started recognizing tendencies of players, and it gave me an advantage when I got the opportunity to go up against them,” Ritter said on what he did to adjust to the mental game.
Devin’s Mentors
As for his mentors, Devin Ritter has been a fan of Albany Huskies football since his elementary school days. “I always just looked up to the guys who I watched playing in Albany in elementary school,” Ritter said about who his mentors were since a young age.
Learning in 2020
After having ACL surgery last year, Ritter learned, “as long as you put the work in, you will reap the rewards,” which is very true in any outlet of life you may be on or off the football field.
Quick Eval:
Ritter is very good at getting in the backfield at the first level. You can tell on film that Ritter is a fighter whose #1 goal is to get in the backfield. Very physical on his tackles regardless of when and where he hits you. Certainly, a next-level defensive tackle that may need to get a little bigger to play his position at the next level. Division II and III interest.
