In this edition, we highlight four guys that recruiters should pay attention to now that the early signing period is completed. The next signing period will come in February 2021. Here’s the list:
York – QB Weston Hance
Twitter: @westonhance_
Analysis: Hance excels in throwing on the run from what we saw on film. If a play breaks down, he does a good job of keeping his eyes downfield and finding the open man and he’ll put it right in between the numbers on the jersey, which is a credit to the velocity on his throws. He can also make the tough throws on the sideline on designed roll-outs. He received an offer from Pikeville College on Wednesday, December 16. He was selected as a 2020 Region 3-AAAA All-Region player by the SC Football Coaches Association. Other FCS programs could benefit from giving this guy a look.
Rock Hill – WR/RB Cam Walker
Twitter: @HitmanCam03
Analysis: Walker is a shifty running back who does not go down the first time a defender gets a chance at him. He’s patient and waits on his blocks to develop, particularly on counter plays where he’ll wait for a hole to open and burst through. Although he was mainly used at running back, he lined up everywhere at wide receiver – in the slot, on the outside and he’s versatile at punt return as well. He’s an impressive student with a 3.7 GPA and just received an offer from Bridgewater College.
Northwestern – WR JaMareon Johnson
Twitter: @JaMeron5
Analysis: Johnson is a receiver who can go up and attack the ball at its highest point. We saw that live in action with one of his games this past year where he made an acrobatic catch with a corner and safety right on top of him. He’s also effective in the quick passing game in catching screens and he gets north and south quickly. He just received an offer from Methodist University on Thursday, December 17. Other FCS programs could benefit from looking at this young man.
South Pointe – WR Phillip Mickels
Twitter: @philabucket
Analysis: Mickels is a smooth receiver who is a great route runner and can get two hands on the ball at all times. He knows where to find the grass in the inside routes to sit down in zone coverage and get a new set of downs for his team. He can line up in the slot and at the “9” man position. He’s an All-Region receiver and an outstanding student in the classroom with a 4.7 GPA. He doesn’t hold any offers yet, but an FCS program could certainly benefit from giving him a look.
