The group of prospects from the Class of 2023, current high school sophomores, may have been the strongest bunch.
Here is a quick look at some of the top Class of 2023 performers at the camp…
Allen Mitchell Allen Mitchell 5'11" | 175 lbs | RB Lutheran-St. Charles | 2023 State MO , ATH, 5-9 3/4, 170, De Smet
One of the bigger names to attend the Showcase, despite only being a sophomore, Mitchell is already established as a Division I prospect and is building an impressive resume after just two high school seasons. He’s not the biggest athlete, but he’s an electric player with the ball in his hands and tough to contain in pass coverage.
Mitchell backed up his film by running a 4.56 hand-timed 40-yard dash, recording a broad jump of 9 feet 1 inches and and a vertical leap of 37.5 inches.
Mitchell has been a contributor to back-to-back Missouri championship game appearances for De Smet, which won in 2019 and finished second in 2020, but he figures to get many more opportunities to see the football over the next two seasons.
Keshawn Ford Keshawn Ford 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB De Smet | 2023 State MO , RB, 5-8, 177, Trinity
Ford established himself as player to watch a year ago as a freshman at Pattonville High School when he racked up 710 total yards (611 rushing, 99 receiving) and scored five touchdowns. But after a transfer to Trinity over the summer, Ford was forced to sit out his sophomore season.
Ford didn’t run the 40 on Sunday, but he didn’t have to in order to showcase his athleticism. The solidly-built sophomore standout recorded a broad jump of 8 feet 9 inches and a vertical leap of 35 inches.
Cooper Starks, OL, 6-4, 315, North Mac (Virden, Ill.)
It was hard to miss Starks when he arrived at the Showcase. He already looks the part of a college offensive lineman. The fact that he’s only a sophomore in high school is pretty remarkable.
Like many young offensive lineman, Starks still has plenty to work on, but he’s got the natural size that colleges covet and showed some good athleticism for his size with a broad jump of 7 feet 1 inches and a vertical leap of 24 inches.
Since Illinois hasn’t played high school football yet this school year, Starks’ film below is from his freshman season a year ago.
Brady Hultman Brady Hultman 6'1" | 210 lbs | ATH Francis Howell | 2023 State MO , RB, 5-10, 199, Francis Howell
Hultman established himself as a player to watch as the third-leading rusher (behind two seniors) on one of the better teams in Missouri this fall and figures to put some big numbers for the Vikings over the next two years.
Hultman, who recorded a broad jump of 8 feet 6 inches and a vertical leap of 29 inches on Sunday, rushed for 213 yards and five touchdowns this past season.
Garrett Gyuriseck Garrett Gyuriseck 6'2" | 165 lbs | QB Lindbergh | 2023 MO , QB, 6-1, 160, Lindbergh
Many of the players at Sunday’s Showcase have already had success on the varsity level. Gyuriseck hasn’t played at the varsity level yet, but is an athletic quarterback who will be one to watch in the next two years while playing for one of the better programs in the St. Louis area.
Gyuriseck’s film below, which is from JV games this season, shows the athleticism that he showed on Sunday when he recorded a 4.6 hand-timed 40, a broad jump of 8 feet 4 inches and a vertical leap of 31 inches.
