This group gave the hog mollies all they can handle, tested well in the 40, showed fantastic feet in the shuttle drill, and so much more. These are my Defensie Line standouts from the first-ever Prep Redzone Wisconsin Showcase in Wisconsin Dells.
John McFadden John McFadden 6'3" | 250 lbs | DL Cedarburg | 2021 State WI , Cedarburg (2021)
McFadden had one of the most well-done bursts off the line I saw on Monday night from the D-Line in the Dells. This kid is an extremely versatile player that can do a little bit of everything from clogging up running lanes to bull-rushing QBs. McFadden stands about 6’3 240 and, with his speed, could be a stud coming off the edge at the next level.
Alexander Perelshtein, Mequon Homestead (2022)
Perelshtein won my award for some of the best shoes in the building and turned in a great day on the field. Perelshtein is one you watch that looks significantly faster in person than on film. Perelshtein loves contact and is a physical hitter on the football field as you can most certainly see the wrestler in him when he tackles as Perelshtein wrestles in the 220-pound class for the Highlanders. Perelshtein is open to playing both sports at the next level. A very smart kid with a 3.7 GPA. Light Division II interest thus far.
Evan Oberg Evan Oberg 6'4" | 255 lbs | OL DeForest | 2022 State WI , DeForest (2022)
The Norskies brought their studs in the two days to the Dells, but Oberg was a very under the radar player I liked in 1on1 drills. Oberg has added some size this offseason, moving from 210 to 240 and growing another to 6’3 and giving him some solid next-level measurables. Oberg’s is built like a tight end with some speed in a defensive end’s body.
Kaden Banks Kaden Banks 6'4" | 255 lbs | DL Holmen | 2021 State WI , Holmen (2021)
The amount of stout defensive linemen in this group that are around 6’3 240 pounds is significant, and that includes Kaden Banks Kaden Banks 6'4" | 255 lbs | DL Holmen | 2021 State WI of Holmen, who was a player that could get off tackles pretty quick. Monday night was the second time I watched Banks this year, as he was in the DL group at the Potenza Elite Showcase in Maple Grove. Banks plays as a defensive tackle but will need to fill out if he wants to continue that at the next level. Banks does a consistent job making sure runs up his alley in the middle get stopped. Kaden has Division I offers to throw discus if football doesn’t work out!
Ilijah Taylor-Jordan, Shorewood/Milwaukee Meesmer (2021)
Taylor-Jordan was another consistent under the radar defensive linemen that stood out in 1on1 drills on Monday night in the Wisconsin Dells. Taylor-Jordan has limited film but is a sizeable kid that needs an opportunity at the next level due to the lack of available film. A kid that could be an asset on both sides of the ball. No Tape.
David Gauderman David Gauderman 6'2" | 225 lbs | ATH Wittenberg-Birnamwood | 2023 State WI , Wittenberg-Birnamwood (2023)
Monday was the first time I watched PRZ Wisconsin’s #1 2023 prospect in person, and he certainly lived up to that hype, and our whole team agrees. I’m learning now more than ever that HS wrestling and defensive ends go together like butter on toast, as Gauderman’s physicality is well beyond his years as just a young sophomore. Gauderman has such strong versatility on the edge. It’s no question high-level college football programs will make plenty of trips on Highway 29 to Wittenberg to, and hopefully can get the most out of their recruiting trip and avoid the Wittenberg casino.
Tyson Beck, Homewood-Flossmoor (IL) (2023)
Beck was a promising young prospect I just learned about on Monday night. The quick first step off the line and plays with an outstanding motor with solid hands-on the attack This kid has excellent measurables (6’3, 220)for just a 15-year-old. I have a gut feeling our Illinois guys will be writing about this kid frequently over the next few years coming out of a strong Homewood-Flossmoor program that had double-digit wins in 2019.
Trenton Riekkoff Trenton Riekkoff 6'1" | 275 lbs | OL Kewaskum | 2021 State WI , Kewaskum (2021)
Riekkoff was one of the toughest battlers I got to watch on Monday night. One of the hardest-working kids in the Dells Dome. When you roll back his film, I get baffled about why this kid doesn’t have an offer yet. Riekkoff drives the bus on both sides of the ball and does it exceptionally well. He needs to develop a little harder punch in his blocking schemes, but Riekkoff is still a next level college prospect.
Logan Burress Logan Burress 6'0" | 230 lbs | DL Hartford | 2021 State WI , Hartford (2021)
The way Burress runs in transition was what stood out to me in 1on1s on Monday night. He has running back type feet in a defensive end’s body as his loose hips allow him to break free and let loose in the backfield. Burress plays the game at such a physical level as a slightly undersized DL. Some school will get a gem in Burress as he was one of Wisconsin’s best in the sacks department this season.
