Today’s running backs must be multi-dimensional in terms of their skill level. They must be exceptional at running, receiving, and blocking. These are the seven best running backs in Ohio for the 2021 class who are real difference makers with the football under their arm.
Corey Kiner Corey Kiner 5'10" | 200 lbs | RB Roger Bacon | 2021 State OH 5’10” 197 Cincinnati Roger Bacon
There is a reason Kiner was selected Ohio’s Mr. Football. He has true breakaway speed with great vision. He can make the “jump cut” seem automatic as he accelerates between tackles and when bouncing the football to the perimeter. Corey has powerful thighs and simply runs through arm tackles. The first defender in space has no hopes of making a solo tackle on this guy. Every time he touches the ball, he is a threat to take it the distance. Corey will play for LSU.
Jaylen Anderson Jaylen Anderson 5'11" | 210 lbs | RB Perry | 2021 State OH 6’1” 210 Perry
Jaylen might be the most versatile of all the running backs in the state. He can line up at running back, wildcat quarterback, slot receiver, or wingback. As a runner, he is extremely quick for his size and can get north-south in a hurry. His size makes him hard to bring down along with having deceptive speed. Jaylen has soft hands and can run the tunnel and quick screen as good as anyone. He is a devastating blocker at wingback or when leading to the outside. Jaylen will continue his football career at West Virginia.
Kyree Young Kyree Young 6'0" | 205 lbs | RB Washington | 2021 State OH 6’2” 195 Barberton
Kyree is a slashing runner who has enough speed to pull away from defenders once he breaks the line of scrimmage. He is a load to bring down and displays power in dragging would-be tacklers along with him. Kyree is instinctive in the way he reads his blocks especially when bouncing to the outside. He is a durable back who isn’t afraid to take a hit or give one out. Young will go to play for the Kentucky Wildcats.
Bryon Threats Bryon Threats 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB Dublin Coffman | 2021 State OH 5’10” 195 Dublin Coffman
Threats can hurt the opponents in a multiplicity of ways. He is quick and agile running back that is quick as a cat, displaying the ability to cut on a dime without losing speed. He has great balance and keeps his feet after first contact. Bryon can catch the ball out of the backfield on swing or seam routes. Bryon is a big playmaker that will be a major contributor on special teams at the collegiate level and is as skilled receiver and defensive back as a running back. He will play for the University of Cincinnati.
Marquael Parks Marquael Parks 5'9" | 165 lbs | RB Orville | 2021 State OH 5’8” 155 Orrville
Do not let the size fool you, Parks is a talented athlete packed into that frame. A shifty running back that can consistently make tacklers miss, knows when to kick it up a gear in the openfield. Marquael can also play slot receiver at the next level to take advantage of his receiving skills while using him on the jet sweep as a runner. His quickness and elusiveness make him a dangerous kickoff return specialist.
Quintell Quin Quintell Quin 6'0" | 190 lbs | RB Columbus St Francis | 2021 State OH n 6’2” 210 Columbus St. Francis DeSales
Quinn is an ideal read option running back that makes quick decisive cuts once he has the ball in his arms. He has lower body power which makes him a reliable short yardage back. Quintell does a good job staying behind his blockers on the inside counter, then showing a burst getting vertical. Quinn’s toughness and durability are on display when blocking on the perimeter. He will play for the Ohio University Bobcats next fall.
Thomas Boyd Thomas Boyd 6'1" | 225 lbs | RB Princeton | 2021 State OH 6’1” 235 Cincinnati Princeton
Boyd is one the best big running backs in the state. He has good vision and times is explosive hitting the creases. He reads his blocks well while looking for daylight to accelerate. Boyd is light on his feet for his size while displaying the needed power to pick up extra yardage. He has the ability to turn a short gain into a big play due to his quickness. Thomas is also one of the best and reliable blocking backs in the state.
