The top seven receivers are all D1 talents that can be impact players at the next level. These seven athletes have tremendous hands, are good route runners, and make extra yards after the reception. They are big play makers that can turn a short reception into a touchdown and several are outstanding return specialists.
Lorenzo Styles Lorenzo Styles 6'1" | 170 lbs | WR Pickerington Central | 2021 State OH Jr 6’1” 180 Pickerington Central
Styles is one of the most explosive players in the state at multiple positions. As a wide receiver he displays soft and sure hands along with breakaway speed. Often makes big plays without being touched due to his ability to run by defenders or make them miss in space. He can line up at any receiving position but might be best suited as a slot receiver where he can be used in the running game as well. Look for Lorenzo to be used as a return specialist I addition to receiver. Styles will play for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
Jayden Ballard Jayden Ballard 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Massillon Washington | 2021 State OH 6’3” 185 Massillon Washington
This may be the best receiver in the country running vertical routes. He is a master technician at route running and body position as a wide out. Jayden is a true big play making receiver who runs the fade, post, and middle seam routes to perfection. He finds the creases in two and three deep coverages and consistently wins the one-on-one battles with corners. He demonstrates the ability to keep feet in bounds when making difficult receptions along the sidelines. Jayden will play for his home state Ohio State Buckeyes next fall.
Markus Allen 6”2” 200 Dayton Northmont
Allen uses his hands as good as any receiver in his pass release techniques against press man coverage. He has impressive separation skills and can break a route off with precision. Allen is a sure handed receiver that can reach over a defender or back across his body to make the catch. He shows a burst after the reception to pull away from defensive backs in the openfield. Markus is the real go-to guy on a broken play by staying in the quarterback’s vision along with finding a way to get open. Allen will attend the University of Wisconsin next year.
Liam Clifford Liam Clifford 6'1" | 200 lbs | WR St. Xavier | 2021 State OH 6’2” 190 Cincinnati St. Xavier
Liam is a smooth and fluid route runner that can turn defensive backs in a circle when he snaps his route off. He displays excellent timing when going up to get the football at the last second before the defender can react. Liam makes the all-important yards after the reception with his deceptive speed and ability to break tackles. He can run the tunnel screen effectively in reading his blocks and understanding the defensive support scheme. Clifford shows toughness as a blocker on the perimeter. He will take his talents to Penn State in the fall of 2021.
Armond Scott Armond Scott 6'3" | 200 lbs | WR Euclid | 2021 State OH 6’3” 200 Euclid
Scott is one of the most physically impressive wide receivers in the state. Strong in the hips and explosive after the reception, Armond is hard to bring down in space. He is excellent at running the fade route in the redzone and shows the competitiveness and toughness to outfight the defensive back for the football. He is also instinctive in finding the voids in zone coverages. Armond uses his long arms to keep tacklers off his body and makes extra yardage after the catch. Scott committed to Kentucky last May but decommitted this fall.
Andrew Wilson-Lamp Andrew Wilson-Lamp 6'3" | 185 lbs | WR Massillon Washington | 2021 State OH 6”3” 180 Massillon Washington
The second receiver from Massillon Washington to make the top seven, Wilson-Lamp is a tall athletic target. He is a long strider with speed that can speed by defensive backs even when in zone coverage. Andrew is shifty with his hips and can turn a defensive back while maintain balance and body control. He demonstrates the ability to make route adjustments to get open as well as to making adjustments on errant passes in order to make the reception. Wilson-Lamp will go on to play for the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Branden Fox 6’3” 200 Akron Hoban
Fox does not have blazing speed but really has an entire arsenal of routes he runs to perfection. He executes the corner, post corner, comeback, and skinny post better than most high school receivers. After the catch, Fox uses the old school straight arm as a weapon in warding off tacklers. Branden isn’t afraid to catch the ball over the middle or in a crowd. He really shows confidence and sure hands when receiving the football and can tightrope the sideline to ensure the reception and stay in bounds. Fox will play for Rutgers at the next level.
