Some of that luster was lost in a regular-season loss to eventually Class 5A runner up (and main rival) T.L. Hanna and then a playoff-opening loss to Irmo. However, it didn’t stop a few Rams from adding some impressive film to their resumes.
MALIK STOWERS, OL
Three months before Stowers’ junior season, he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. The treatment took, and the 5-foot-10, 285-pounder then made something special out of his final two years. Playing mostly left guard, Stowers was excellent at leverage. He was also adept at releasing after first contact and getting into the second level of the defense to block for tailbacks.
BRYCE EARLEY, K/P
Earley, coach Scott Earley’s son, was a valuable asset in all three phases of the kicking game. The lefty put three-quarters of his kickoffs into the end zone. He was perfect on PATs (33-for-33) and connected on three of his four field goal attempts. When he stepped in to help on punting duties, he had a couple of 50 yarders in the mix.
MARQUIS GANT, DB
Gant’s one season at Westside including a few short stints on offense as a receiver and he put up another 180 yards on kick and punt returns. But he really excelled in the defensive backfield. Playing safety, the 5-foot-7, 160-pounder recorded 36 total tackles (including 21 solo stops) and picked off four passes.
