There was a solid collection of up and coming talent in attendance, and there were five players among them that really stood out to me at different points of the workout. Ahead, we will take a look at each player, and how they caught my eye. Let’s dive in!
Jerry Kaminsky, Sophomore QB- Sun Prairie
I was really impressed with Jerry in the QB drills. He has nice size already at 6’1’’ 190 lbs and his mechanics are sharp. Especially for a kid his age. He has a natural, prototypical throwing motion and all the necessary arm strength. In drills, Kaminsky was slinging it all over the field with accuracy, velocity, and anticipation. The ball jumps out of his hand. Jerry looked so natural with the ball in his hands. He is currently behind a very talented senior QB at Sun Prairie, but once he gets his shot he is going to be a kid you have to keep your eye on.
Avery Kurth, Sophomore DB- Slinger
Avery had a really good day at the Showcase. He showed out in the one on one battles over and over. That wasn’t easy because not only was he going against mostly older athletes, but the DB group had to rotate through a ton of times due to having less numbers than the receivers. It didn’t effect Avery, though. I really liked watching him in those battles. He looked so natural. His recognition, closing speed, and ball skills led to multiple interceptions on the day. Kurth proved that he could turn and run with a lot of the guys he faced. His hips were very loose too and it allowed him to change direction or turn and run with receivers easily. That is what led him to the interceptions he made. It was a great day for the 6’0″ 190 lbs sophomore DB.
Keany Parks, Sophomore WR/RB- Kenosha Bradford
Keany was one of the best overall athletes at the Showcase. He came in at a cut up 6’0’’ 165 lbs and overflowing with athleticism. Parks worked out with the RBs at the event and it was almost unfair. Once they got to the one on one battles his speed and change of direction were nearly impossible to defend. We had some real dudes at the LB position, but over and over Keany was creating a lot of separation for his QB to throw to. Parks came in and showed why he was one of the most impressive players from this past fall. He showed everything you could want to see out of an RB in this environment. Speed, agility, hands, playmaking ability. It was all there. I could see Parks being a D1 prospect by the time his senior season rolls around. He is well on the way.
Zander Rockow, Sophomore RB- Regis
Zander looked great out on the field. He’s already got a really nice build at 6’1″ 220 lbs and he carries it really well. I followed Zander throughout the season and a lot of what you see on his film showed up in the Dells at the Showcase. Rockow proved he isn’t just a big back that relies on power. He showed off some nice agility in the shuttle and in the one on one battles I caught a few reps that really showed off his body control. There was one reception in particular where he had to adjust to the throw by hitting the brakes in his route, went up, caught it with his hands, and completed the catch even while falling to the ground and having the defender’s hands all over him. It was impressive to see a kid with that size and age combination have that much body control already. Zander is going to be a player to watch going forward.
Tak Tateoka Tak Tateoka 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Waukesha South | 2023 State WI , Sophomore QB- Waukesha South
Tak was possibly the most impressive QB at the Showcase in my eyes. He’s got a good frame at 6’2″ 175 lbs and a cannon for an arm. Once I started watching him I had a hard time leaving. It was clear how talented he was. Every box you could think of he checked off. Size, arm strength, accuracy, mechanics, anticipation. It was all on full display. When he was in the QB drills and throwing with a group it was clear that he was one of the most naturally gifted players in the bunch. The ball explodes out of his hand. He could put it anywhere he wanted and he could get it there as fast as he needed to. Tak has all the tools that make me believe he will be a D1 prospect by the time his senior season rolls around. Keep your eyes on this kid. He had a great showing.
