Some of these players were able to play a full schedule while others lost games to COVID rules. As a former player and scout, but as a coach and a father, thank you all for battling each and every week.
For those of you not on this list, you are not being overlooked. You just need to decide how bad you want to be on this team next year and make Prep Redzone take notice of your game.
DL Domonique Orange Domonique Orange 6'3" | 295 lbs | DL North Kansas City | 2022 State MO , North KC (2022)– Orange has offers from so many major programs, it is easy to forget he is only a junior. The massive pile mover was ranked No. 14 in the Prep Redzone Preseason rankings but will be in the top 10 when the post season rankings come out. He is the most elite 2022 player in the Kansas City area.
DL Mason Crim, Smithville (2022)– The big man excels on both sides of the football and even scored on some shortage runs this season. Crim can win with power but is agile on his feet and wins with quickness as well. Mason will be an interesting recruiting prospect and how colleges view him as either a center or defensive tackle. Either way, he is a heck of a high school player.
LB Trevor Scott, Platte County (2022)– Scott has so much versatility, college coaches are going to fall in love with his game. The PC junior can drop into coverage with ease and makes sure tackles. But he is at his best blitzing or rushing the passer. Highly productive player who is going to be a very solid college linebacker.
LB Cody Simoncic, Smithville (2022)– Another player who not only has different skill sets to their game, but one that is improving each game. A tackling machine, Simoncic breaks down well in space to make the sure stop. Cody is flexible, extremely football savvy and his on the field IQ is through the roof. I actually believe Simoncic will be a far better college LB than high school.
DB Matthew Hutson, Liberty North (2022)– Hutson is an active player who is not afraid to run, hit and tackle. As a multiple sport athlete, Hutson has good hand/eye coordination, he plays under control and is a much better athlete than given credit for. Sneaky fast, Hutson is a playmaker on defense who is around the football, always challenging the receiver.
DB Vince Cox, St. Pius X (2022)– A very aggressive tackler, Cox is a good enough athlete to play cornerback or safety. A smooth athlete who plays zone coverage well, Cox has the speed and toughness to hold up in man coverage on the high school level very well. A smart college program uses him as a hybrid CB/S mix.
DB Ruger Sutton, Parkhill Central (2022)– Small in stature, Sutton is a tough player who is not afraid to be physical. Both a defensive back and receiver, Sutton uses his offensive skills to anticipate what his opponent is doing to make a play. Sutton should lead from the front his senior season.
