Whether it’s playing the position itself, or facing some of the toughest competition, the role as the leader of the team holds a ton of weight and responsibility. As a senior, there often times comes another bit of responsibility, which is to play at a very high level, to bring a successful season to the senior class, and to further make a name for yourself in the recruiting world. Below, we have listed a few of our favorite prospects from the 2020 class, who managed to do all of this in their senior year, and who have become more reputable as time has passed.
Xavier Williams Xavier Williams 6'2" | 205 lbs | QB Colquitt County | 2021 State GA – Colquitt County
Perhaps our favorite prospect out of this list, Xavier Williams Xavier Williams 6'2" | 205 lbs | QB Colquitt County | 2021 State GA proves to have a ton of upside, and can eventually be a game changing QB for the Charlotte 49ers when he goes on to play at the next level. Not only is his mobility an attractive asset, but his ability to make big plays as a runner can help solve broken plays. With this, he also has okay touch when throwing the ball, and can deliver the ball on target on simple route patterns. While we would like to see him make more college level throws, we feel his accuracy and placement are good enough to excel at his future level of competition. Along with this, his ability to throw the ball with velocity is definitely something that helps him with his current success, but if he were to clean up his mechanics, he could definitely see a bit of improvement in his productivity as a passer.
Kedrek Smith Kedrek Smith 5'10" | 180 lbs | QB Veterans | 2021 State GA – Veterans
Kedrek Smith Kedrek Smith 5'10" | 180 lbs | QB Veterans | 2021 State GA , an Air Force commit, certainly shows to fit the profile of what they can be looking for. Not only can he show to have a talented enough arm to decently play QB at the next level, but his ability to play WR, which he did often during his senior year, shows that he can be a great gadget player at the next level as well. His speed, twitch, and ability to make sudden decisions as a ball carrier can prove to be effective in many ways. Not only does he show to be effective out of the backfield, but he can turn the corner as well. Look for him to have an interesting future at Air Force if they do truly take him as a QB.
Tanner Greene Tanner Greene 6'0" | 185 lbs | QB Loganville | 2021 GA – Loganville
While Greene may not have the most polished footwork in the pocket, he certainly has a rocket of an arm, as he is able to show consistency in his ball placement, and ability to make throws all over the field. With this, while he is a bit hoppy in the pocket, he finds ways to see the open receiver, and hit them in a timely enough manner for them to catch the ball and gain yards after the catch. What also makes him dangerous is his ability to have a quick release when throwing the ball, which helps keep the offense moving quickly. Along with this, Greene also proves to be a slippery runner, as his mobility allows for him to pick up hard yards as well.
Austin Smith Austin Smith 6'2" | 195 lbs | QB Cedar Grove | 2021 State GA – Cedar Grove
Smith, who is committed to Eastern Michigan, has a ton of valuable tools at his disposal when he sets foot on the football field. To start, Smith has good touch, and a very smooth and clean release when throwing the ball, and proves to be able to maneuver the pocket very well too. With this, he also shows the ability to transition his weight well when throwing the ball with velocity. Smith’s ball placement is also at a great level when doing so, and he shows consistency in his accuracy in his throws at multiple levels of the field. While we do feel he could be a bit cleaner in his footwork and how he squares his shoulders, we see a ton of upside in his ability to play the position at a high level.
