These guys will likely be playing somewhere next year – but as of this story – nobody knows where. This time, the focus shifts to some of the better pass-catchers who – sorry for the pun – have not yet caught on with a college.
Blake Walthall Blake Walthall 6'1" | WR Moorhead | 2021 State MN Moorhead
Walthall has excellent hands as primarily an outside receiver – like Kramer – his senior highlight package includes a one-handed grab. The senior has good footwork and has quick feet that can give defensive backs trouble in the open field. His feet and speed make him a great route runner – giving himself space running out routes and square-ins. His ability to get deep makes it tough on defensive backs to sit on outs or slants because Walthall will run by the deep if they do.
Jamarien Wheeler Jamarien Wheeler 6'2" | WR Minneapolis Washburn | 2021 State MN Minneapolis-Washburn
Wheeler’s speed and height make him a dangerous deep threat. The senior makes great adjustments on those deep passes. He is nearly as dangerous coming out of the backfield, both lined up wide and coming across the formation as well as in the traditional running back position. He is also a threat in the kicking game and on defense, where his speed allowed him to run down, would be touchdown runs from the other side of the field.
Brady Walthall Brady Walthall 6'1" | WR Moorhead | 2021 State MN Moorhead
Usually coming out of the slot, Blake’s twin brother – Brady – is great in space. He made a living catching short balls and racking up yards after catch stats. His cutting ability not only allows him to get open on crossing routes and slants but also helps him make people miss – turning five-yard catches into fifty-yard touchdowns. He wouldn’t be getting all those YAC yards without the ability to break tackles – which is undoubtedly in his skillset. With his ability in the open field, it didn’t surprise me to see he is also one of the top punt returners in the state.
Noah Arneson Noah Arneson WR Orono | 2021 State MN Orono
Arneson did a little bit of everything for the Spartans in 2020. He has good speed and good ball skills on deep balls. Arneson has the hands to catch contested balls in traffic underneath. He is a crisp route runner and is a physical receiver. He is tough to jam at the line of scrimmage, can take a hit to complete a catch, and can bounce off tackles in the open field if the defender doesn’t wrap him up. A willing blocker, Arneson also contributes on the defensive side of the ball.
Aghogho Eyafe Aghogho Eyafe WR Andover | 2021 State MN Andover
Eyafe plays mostly in the slot. He makes great adjustments on deep balls and has the speed to be a consistent deep ball threat. He runs good routes and gets in and out of his breaks fluidly. The senior has nice hands and doesn’t need a perfectly thrown ball to make a play. Eyafe is not afraid of contact – either on a route over the middle or blocking in the running game.
