We look at the top newcomers to the 2022 class rankings and there are many of them. Below is a quick look at the top newcomers you need to know.
#29 WR Reggion Bennett Reggion Bennett 5'9" | 170 lbs | WR Trinity Collegiate School | 2022 State SC , Trinity Collegiate School, 5’9, 170
Bennett is a 3-time Region Player of the Year and dynamic prospect. He only has an offer from Miami (OH) now but he will blow up as we move through the spring and summer. His 4.4 speed and ability to impact in many ways will make him a top prospect.
#30 DL Hudson Lee Hudson Lee 6'5" | 250 lbs | DL Dorman | 2022 State SC , Dorman, 6’5, 250
So far Lee does not have any offers but at his size that won’t last long. Lee plays the edge very well using his size and power. He has the frame to bulk up 10-15 more pounds easily and will be even tougher to block. His speed is also pretty good for his size and he does a good job of pushing the pocket.
#32 WR Shamontae Burgess Shamontae Burgess 5'10" | 170 lbs | WR Lake City | 2022 State SC , Lake City, 5’10, 170
Burgess is a lot like Bennett with just one offer and that is from Savannah State. He is a quick, smooth route runner who needs to develop as a route runner and bulk up but his speed and big play ability make him a prospect to watch. We believe he will eventually land double digit offers.
#33 OL Donovan Edwards Donovan Edwards 6'4" | 285 lbs | OL Camden | 2022 State SC , Camden, 6’4, 285
Camden always seems to have D1 prospects and while Edwards does not have any offers we believe he will land some. He can play left or right tackle and pulls pretty well. With his feet, size, and speed you can expect to see a lot of interest in him this summer. For a big man he is a really good athlete who even kicked PATs for Camden.
#34 LB Judah McJimpsey Judah McJimpsey 6'2" | 200 lbs | LB Spartanburg | 2022 State SC , Spartanburg, 6’2, 200
Spartanburg standout inside linebacker Judah McJimpsey Judah McJimpsey 6'2" | 200 lbs | LB Spartanburg | 2022 State SC is fun to watch as he plays with good initial quickness and does a good job of reading where the ball is going. McJimpsey can not only stop the run but drop and cover as well. You could argue that he is underrated here after posting a season where he led the team with 74 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and two sacks in 2020.
#37 S/WR Chandler McCall Chandler McCall 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB North Myrtle Beach | 2022 State SC , North Myrtle Beach, 6’0, 170
McCall is highly touted already as a First-Team All-Horry County, 4A First-Team All-Region, and 4A First-Team All-State selection in 2020. He plays all three phases of the game as a receiver, free safety, and punt returner. The expectation is that he will land most offers on defense but he should be able to contribute as a kick or punt returner as well.
#38 WR Chanc Gamble, Southside, 6’3, 180
Gamble stands out before the play with size and good length. He has speed and good hands as well. Route running will need to be improved but he is a big play target who led the team with 771 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 24.1 per catch in 2020.
#41 DL Jahiem Lawson Jahiem Lawson 6'3" | 235 lbs | DL DW Daniel | 2022 State SC , DW Daniel, 6’3, 235
You may remember another Lawson who went in the first round out of Daniel in Shaq Lawson. Jahiem is another from that family and should be a very good one. He had 46 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, eight sacks, two fumble recoveries, and two forced fumbles in 2020. Lawson’s size, pass rush ability, and speed will attract many offers before the cycle is over.
#44 DL Rondarius Porter Rondarius Porter 6'2" | 260 lbs | DL Heathwood Hall | 2022 State SC , Heathwood Hall, 6’2, 260
Porter is another prospect who still has no offers but this off-season will change that. He plays in the same league that produced Jordan Burch and dominated just like him. Porter finished 2020 with 117 tackles, 45 tackles for loss, nine sacks, and six forced fumbles on defense but he is also someone who could be a brutal fullback at the next level. He moves very well for his size and has a good get off. We believe Porter will play defensive end where he can win with speed and power and was absolutely unblockable last year.
#45 TE Joshua Sapp Joshua Sapp 6'4" | 225 lbs | TE Greenville | 2022 State SC , Greenville, 6’4, 225
Sapp plays quarterback, tight end, receiver, and defensive end for Greenville High School. He could be the best athlete on the team as he can throw, block very well in space, catches the ball well, and on defense he is quick off the ball with the tools that make him difficult to block. A big question will be where to play him as some will want him on defense while others will want him as a quarterback or tight end. Sapp can really do it all but we believe he ends up at tight end and becomes a very solid college player.
