Continue ReadingAs we conclude our most recent update of the Class of 2022 Prep Redzone Dakotas rankings, we take a look at the 13 prospects that had the biggest climb in our rankings in our latest piece on the “Stock Risers” from the Dakotas. Some climbed up a few spots into the top 10, some made some huge jumps, and some put their school on the map and possibly got themselves into that scholarship level prospect category. Enjoy!
Carson Hegerle Carson Hegerle 6'4" | 185 lbs | WR West Fargo | 2022 State , WR/DB, West Fargo (ND)
Ranking: Hegerle moved up five spots to the #2 spot in the Class of 2022.
The Why: There are not many 6’3-6’4 wide receivers/defensive backs that run as fast as Hegerle does in the Dakotas. Hegerle has a ton of length in his game as his extension when he jumps for the football is outstanding. His quick-twitch at WR makes a lot of defenders miss. It’s very easy to see why this kid was one of the first offers in the Class of 2022 by a few local FCS schools. Certainly one of a few Division I prospects coming out of the two schools in West Fargo.
Junior Tape
Gage Tennyson Gage Tennyson 6'4" | 205 lbs | DB Custer | 2022 State , DB, Custer (SD)
Ranking: Tennyson moved up 30 spots to the #7 spot in the Class of 2022.
The Why: Tennyson is another long defensive back that made a splash in his junior season. His ability to come up and make a physical tackle and his ability to use his long arms to make a key interception is why he’s so fun to watch. It almost comes off as bully like when he hits a guy on that second level. Also productive on the offensive side of the ball as he has quick feet make him an elusive tight end. As of right now, Tennyson holds the #1 spot for the West River and is an absolute Division I prospect with offers to prove it.
Steven Christion Steven Christion 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Lennox | 2022 State , WR, Lennox (SD)
Ranking: Christion moved 17 spots to #35 in our Class of 2022 rankings.
The Why: Reviewing Christion’s film, I really like how he creates space on his catches inside the first down markers. Versatile enough to be effective in the Lennox return game with his sound footwork. Christion is a vigilant player that always knows when the ball is coming his way. Scholarship level prospect out of the Orioles football program.
Caleb Rist Caleb Rist 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Des Lacs-Burlington | 2022 State , RB, Des Lacs-Burlington (ND)
Ranking: Rist moved up eight spots to the #46 spot in our Class of 2022 rankings.
The Why: If driving 11.5 hours to our Wisconsin showcase wasn’t enough dedication, Rist also has shown off he’s a running back that has some slip to his game with his ability to get yards after contact. An efficient pass-catcher out of the backfield and one that moves well coast to coast across the field with his strong stamina. At the Prep Redzone Showcase in WI, he ran in the 4.7 range. He already holds one NAIA offer, with I’m sure more scholarship opportunities to come.
Cade Larson Cade Larson LB Harrisburg | 2022 State , LB, Harrisburg (SD)
Ranking: Larson moved up a whopping 66 spots to the #24 spot in the Class of 2022.
The Why: Larson’s ability to blitz aggressively into the backfield was more than enough to move him up the rankings, as his motor and speed go hand and hand as one of the top 2022 linebackers in all of the Dakotas. One of the hardest-hitting linebackers I have seen thus far, as his tackles’ physicality level is top-notch. His tackles are textbook how you want to do it, and I would advise the younger generation coming up thru Harrisburg to watch his film as a model of how you tackle and how you play the linebacker position because Larson is that good. High-level scholarship prospect.
Kellen Entz Kellen Entz 6'3" | 195 lbs | DB West Fargo-Sheyenne | 2022 State , DB, West Fargo Sheyenne (ND)
Ranking: Entz moved up 51 spots to the #11 spot in the Class of 2022.
Eval: I know we have talked about defensive back’s length in this article, but Entz might have the most extended reach of all three we have talked about. Entz has some of the best feet in the Dakotas, which is another reason why we moved him up so high on our rankings. His vision is excellent as he recorded five interceptions last year, which, when you look at the film, not all were just easy grabs; he showed great effort to get to some of those. Already getting some Division I interest.
Ayden Viox Ayden Viox 6'0" | 230 lbs | LB Harrisburg | 2022 State , LB, Harrisburg (SD)
Ranking: Viox moved up 20 spots to the #20 spot in the Class of 2022 rankings
The Why: More of a threat off the edge, Viox moved in as a top 20 prospect due to his ability to do the dirty work inside the line, as you see a kid that has to drive thru a ton of traffic, but with his excellent vision he’s the ability to find the man with the football pretty quickly. A little more burst off the line, and Viox could see himself moving up again in our overall rankings in the next 3-4 months. If it wasn’t clear by now, this 2022 class at Harrisburg is hugely loaded with scholarship level prospects, including Ayden Viox Ayden Viox 6'0" | 230 lbs | LB Harrisburg | 2022 State .
Isaiah Huus Isaiah Huus 6'0" | 205 lbs | RB Bismarck | 2022 State , RB, Bismarck (ND)
Ranking: Huus moved up 35 spots to the #30 spot in the Class of 2022 rankings.
The Why: Huus defines the term bully back but has a lot more burst than the typical “bully backs” we talk about. His ability to run downhill on mostly smaller defenders gives him a considerable advantage and might be why he averaged around 10 yards per carry last season for the Demons. One of the few developments that Huus could do to improve his stock is setting his feet after contact with his runs, so he’s not running on stilts. Next level prospect.
McKade Rentsch McKade Rentsch 5'11" | 165 lbs | RB Sioux Valley | 2022 State , RB, Sioux Valley (SD)
Ranking: Rentsch moved up nine spots to #68 in our Class of 2022 rankings.
The Why: Despite not being the #1 running back for the Cossacks, I think Rentsch is due for a breakout senior season. I like how Rentsch runs from sideline to sideline with his solid speed. He also has strong hands and twitches in his feet to get away from defenders under his own power. A fighter for yards after contact is another plus I like about Rentsch and make him a top 70 prospect coming out of Volga.
Trey Sayler Trey Sayler LB Herreid/Selby | 2022 State , LB/FB, Herreid-Selby (SD)
Ranking: The first Sayler brother went up 41 spots to #38 in our Class of 2022 rankings.
The Why: Sayler defines a loaded two-way player nearing 1000 yards rushing and over 115 tackles this season. He has a good bounce in between the tackles and strong legs to continue his rushing path after contact. Very versatile at linebacker, as he’s done well dropping back in coverage and dropping a tailback for a loss, too, in the backfield. Even though we don’t have a position group for it on the website, our scouts have Sayler listed as the #1 fullback in the Class of 2022 in all of the Dakotas.
Trevor Sayler Trevor Sayler 6'1" | 220 lbs | LB Herreid/Selby | 2022 State AL , LB, Herreid-Selby (SD)
Ranking: Trevor Sayler Trevor Sayler 6'1" | 220 lbs | LB Herreid/Selby | 2022 State AL is up 19 spots to #60 in the Class of 2022 rankings.
The Why: Trevor does an excellent job of getting beyond that first level as he’s a terrific run stuffer for the Wolverines. He is a sound tackler that everything in front of him is not getting by him—very physical tackler in the 9-man game. Look for the Sayler brothers in the class of 2022 to make Herreid-Selby a state contender next season.
Jordan Larsen Jordan Larsen 6'5" | 290 lbs | OL Harrisburg | 2022 State , OL/DL, Harrisburg (SD)
Ranking: One of two Harrisburg kids that got a large bump, as Jordan Larsen Jordan Larsen 6'5" | 290 lbs | OL Harrisburg | 2022 State moved up 69 spots to the #12 ranked prospect in the Class of 2022
The Why: Larsen’s mobility on both sides of the line is what gave him such a big move in the rankings here in the Dakotas. He’s not only a productive offensive lineman, but the way he moves into the backfield at the nose tackle position (something is seldomly seen done well) is another critical asset to his game if we look at the next level. He puts in the same work on offense as an exceptionally consistent pull blocker that goes wherever his running back might be headed. With the speedy RB Harrisburg has in Gavin Ross Gavin Ross 5'11" | 205 lbs | RB Harrisburg | 2023 State , don’t be surprised for a big senior season out of Larsen in that department with Hog Molly of the Year, Ethan Headlee Ethan Headlee 6'5" | 310 lbs | OL Harrisburg | 2021 State moving on to SDSU.
Chance Gregg Chance Gregg 6'2" | 245 lbs | DL Herreid/Selby | 2022 State , OL/DL, Herreid-Selby (SD)
Ranking: Gregg moved up 30 spots to the #59 spot in our Class of 2022 rankings.
The Why: Gregg moves much faster than you would expect a 230-pound lineman to move. The 1st team all-state prospect is a sound tackler and a run stuffer that rarely anything gets by him with that speed. Gregg is a two-way player that, in my opinion, is the best fit as a defensive end at the next level based on his ability to shed off blocks quickly and crowd into a line to make a play on the ball carrier. Logging nearly 90 tackles as a defensive lineman in any division in football is no small task.
