The state of Georgia is constantly developing high-level linebackers who end up being some of the best in the nation. The peach state produced some of the nation’s best linebackers in the 2021 class led by North Gwinnett’s Barrett Carter Barrett Carter 6'1" | 220 lbs | LB North Gwinnett | 2021 State GA (Clemson signee) and Paulding County’s Smael Mondon Smael Mondon 6'3" | 210 lbs | LB Paulding County | 2021 State GA (UGA signee).
But they weren’t the only two linebackers to sign with major programs.
Hapeville Charter outside linebacker Zavier Carter Zavier Carter 6'4" | 193 lbs | LB Hapeville Charter | 2021 State GA signed with LSU while Heard County star Chief Borders Chief Borders 6'3" | 230 lbs | LB Carrollton | 2021 State GA signed with Florida. Wayne County linebacker Trevin Wallace is still undecided, but he holds offers from Auburn, Ole Miss, South Carolina, among others.
So the 2021 class was VERY deep at linebacker across the peach state. The 2022 class might not be as top heavy, but there are still plenty of talented “under the radar” linebackers to know.
Anthony Gaskin – Coffee County
The small-town linebacker from Douglas in South Georgia showed his athleticism in a big way during the 2020 season where he became one of the top tacklers in the region. The 6-foot-2 200-pounder led the 10-3 Trojans to an excellent season and a deep playoff run before losing to state champion runner up Cartersville. Gaskin was reliable all year for the Trojans and finished with 113 tackles,8 TFLs, 1 sack, and 10 hurries. He has some versatility to his game with the ability to play multiple linebacker positions. He has the frame to continue adding more muscle and weight without losing speed and his initial burst. He’s a South Georgia linebacker to know in 2021.
Patrick Corrigan – North Forsyth
One of the top overall linebackers north of Fulton County, Corrigan had an excellent junior season for the Raiders as he was named Defensive Player of the Year in the Region. Corrigan went up against 7A offenses all year and made a big impact in every game. As a junior last fall, Corrigan made 69 tackles, 17 TFLs, 4 sacks, and 10 QB hurries. The big 6-foot-3 230-pounder is a great tackler and knows how to get his man to the ground. He’s got great size and knows how to punish the ball carrier. He also showed great instincts and always made sure to be in the right place to make a play. Look for Corrigan to have another big season as a senior in 2021.
Gary Davis Gary Davis 6'0" | 195 lbs | LB Cairo | 2022 State GA – Cairo
The key for Davis this year was to keep eating and growing, and according to the Cairo football staff, that’s exactly what he did in 2020. He’s still not the biggest linebacker around at 6-foot-0 205 pounds, but Davis is a tackling machine with a true nose for the football. As a junior last fall, Davis totaled 105 tackles and 5 sacks for his small-town team. He’s now lead the team in tackles for the past two seasons and could see some smaller schools start to show interest this offseason. He’s quick, shows good instincts, but most importantly, he knows how to wrap up the ball carrier.
Ty Anderson – Thomasville
If you’re looking for productivity, look no further that the South Georgia linebacker from Thomasville. Anderson was all over the place for the Bulldogs in 2022, combining for 127 tackles (9.7 per game) and 17 TFLs to go along with two sacks. He dissects plays well, he’s a leader on that side of the ball, and he has a knack for finding the football. He led the Bulldogs to an 85- record and on a defense that held 9 opponents to 20 points or less last fall.
