Those athletes with that fresh feeling of the sport in their heads and on their minds.
In Florida, there is no longer one defined season. It doesn’t exist. What does happen between the end of one season and the start of another are camps, combines and 7-on-7 events. Football-related activities that will keep them in that frame of mind.
In between the events geared to evaluate athleticism and some football skills, there are also conditioning days/nights, where players are urged to continue to follow the strength regiment until the start of the next football season.
There are so many football players who use those events in the off-season months to gain recognition – and as we have done for over a half century, that information will come right to you – the fan of this great sport.
As we will throughout the entire off season, we will introduce you to players, coaches and teams – and today we have five student/athletes to keep an eye on.
2023 – Stephon Mango, OL, 6-3, 270, Sanford Seminole. When you watch this young man perform, you have to remind yourself that he is just a 10th grader, who is learning. But when you grasp that he is just a sophomore, you look at this young man in a much different way. He is already strong. He will get much stronger. He is quick off the ball. He will get much quicker. As he grows and matures, and continues to progress, this is someone to watch for a solid program.

2023 – Will Prichard, QB, 6-3, 200, West Palm Beach The King’s Academy. Another sophomore who has grown up from when we started watching him two plus years ago. This is now a football player that has to be on the mind of every college. He has the size, arm strength, accuracy and his sneaky fast. Another of the many positives for this young man is his quick release, and as his arm continues to get stronger, that release will become increasingly more lethal. Definitely a major football talent coming out of a well-coached team.

2022 – Da’yon Rawls, RB/Slot, 5-10, 175, Jacksonville Lee. You often wonder how a team gets to a certain level. Then, you look at the roster and see how many individual players they have that come together to make a team. Here is a gifted football talent who can run from the line of scrimmage – and at the same time – catch the ball out of the backfield. This is one of those juniors who will once again be a catalyst for this quality program that lost in the playoffs this season.

2023 – Luke Sather, QB, 6-4, 190, Cape Coral Ida Baker. The one position that has long been behind when it comes to producing talent is quarterback. Yes, it has come a long way, but at the same time, development is just now producing top-flight prospects. There is so much to like about this accurate and strong-arm passer. He makes a lot of throws right now, and when you comprehend that he’s just a sophomore, there is indeed room to grow. This is going to be one of the next wave of quarterbacks here in the Sunshine State. He has way too much going for him.

2023 – Rico Watkins, Athlete, Tallahassee Rickards. Talk about having everything going in your direction. This is indeed one of those football players who can do it all – and with two full seasons left, and the experience of a state title run – things can be very interesting over the next few years. Watch him perform and you see a very athletic and impressive play-maker that moves the chains. He can throw, catch, play special teams and impact the secondary if needed.
