Aden Chavez, Cibola: Since throwing for nearly 1,500 yards and completing 72 percent of his passes (136-190) for 13 touchdowns as a freshman in 2019, the 6-foot-5, 195-pound Chavez has been on fire, making an impression at several camps, including the Elite 11 in Chicago, the Rise and Fire camp in Dallas and Elite Underclassmen Showcase in Las Vegas. Expect a big spring from Chavez and Cibola. He’s a major reason the Cougars are considered a threat to make some serious noise. His size, arm strength, accuracy and high football IQ assures major college coaches will find their way to Cibola High very soon.
Aiden Armenta, La Cueva: Armenta will compete for the Bears’ starting QB with senior Ryan Cook Ryan Cook 6'0" | 180 lbs | QB La Cueva | 2021 State NM . Even if he doesn’t win the battle, expect him to see some meaningful snaps. Armenta was sensational at the QBUniverse camp in Phoenix a couple of weeks ago, earning accolades as one of the top performers there. Regardless of what happens this spring, pencil the 6-foot-2,1 75-pound Armenta in as La Cueva’s starting QB for 2021 and 2022.
Marcquis Henry, Aztec: Henry is arguably the top young quarterback in the Four Corners region as he passed for 1,25 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2019. If he’s able to get his completion percentage north of 60 percent, watch out. Henry is a true dual threat QB with 400 rushing yards in 2019.
AJ Rivera, Albuquerque Academy: The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Rivers made a splash in his Class 4A debut in 2019, throwing for 1,476 yards and 12 touchdowns. Rivera is just one of several young promising players for Albuquerque Academy. Watch for the Chargers in the spring.
Ja’Brae Boyer, Estancia: Boyer directed Estancia’s run-dominated attack in 2019. He attempted 48 passes for 280 yards and five touchdowns. However, then senior running back Andrew Lujan (2,169 rushing yards and 27 TDs) graduated last May, so the Bears could look to Boyer to carry more of the load this spring.
