The ability to be light on their feet and being able to transfer their weight to anchor against a strong defensive lineman and be a pillar in pass protection. In the run game, they must show the ability to set the edge in the run game with good hand placement and natural knee benders to create running lanes. The state of Ohio has a great high school football tradition and especially along the offensive line, let’s take a look at five 2022 offensive tackles to watch out for this upcoming season!
Ethan Green 6-7 265 Ross High School
A tall athletic offensive tackle that is light on his feet and his landmark quickly when pass setting and does not overset and lunge at defenders. He demonstrates to have patient hands and strikes and resets quickly and efficiently, landing solid strikes on defenders throughout a game. A tenacious run blocker that locks on to defenders drives them out of the running lane and finishes blocks on film.
Connor Kemmerling 6-6 295 Olentangy Orange High School
A versatile offensive tackle that has the footwork and experience to play both on the left and right side of the line and at a high level to be exact. He engulfs the defensive lineman with “heavy hands” and a quick first step off the line of scrimmage and drives them out. He can anchor quickly and efficiently in pass protection and can shock defensive ends coming off the edge.
Tegra Tsgabola 6-6 315 Lakota West High School
The Ohio State commit is an absolute mauler in the run game, you can see from his film that he is a natural knee bender and explodes through his blocks and shows to have good body control and awareness to finish blocks cleanly. He takes that physicality and translates that into his pass protection as well, strikes with a powerful punch, and demonstrates consistent footwork in his pass sets.
Cameron Collins Cameron Collins 6'4" | 265 lbs | OL St. Xavier | 2022 State OH 6-4 265 St.Xavier High School
An athletically gifted offensive tackle that is light on his feet and can reach the outside shoulder of the defensive end and seal the edge on outside zone run plays on a consistent basis. He has good body control which allows him to make key blocks in open space when pulling or reaching the second level of a moving defender. He demonstrates the ability to quickly jump set a defensive end and quickly reset and redirect when needed in pass protection.
Nick Dalessandro 6-4 265 Chargin Falls High School
An athletic and fundamentally sound offensive tackle that is confident in his technique and light on his feet when engaging into a defender whether it is in the run or pass game. He plays with an aggressive demeanor and finishes blocks throughout an offensive drive, and has good awareness to readjust his path of the block if needed.
