Class of 2022 preview: Offensive Line
In this article:
Overview: The class of 2022 is full of talented offensive lineman ready to make their mark. The following is a break down of some potential standouts in the class.
OL: Daniel Corcino Daniel Corcino 6'5" | 310 lbs | OL St. Frances | 2022 MD , 6’5″, 325, St. Francis, 2022, JR
As a guard Daniel demonstrates the ability to win the line of scrimmage in the run game. Daniel excels at combining his size with his leg drive to overpower defensive lineman after the initial stalemate on the line of scrimmage, often leading to gaping holes in the defense and knockdowns. Daniel also demonstrates the ability to dominate smaller defenders on the second level on film. Daniel can be seen dispatching linebackers with a powerful blow that creates a knockdown or locking on and driving until they either end up on their backs or entirely out of the play. As a pass protector Daniel has demonstrated the ability to control the depth of the pocket. Once Daniel gets his hands on the defender he often ends their movement entirely by smothering them with his size. As Daniel continues to develop and master his own body he will without a doubt become a force in the conference and a high-level collegiate prospect.
OL: Jacob Sacra Jacob Sacra 6'5" | 300 lbs | OL St. Frances | 2022 State MD , 6’6″, 315, St. Paul, 2022, JR
After watching Christian’s tape my first takeaway is that he is an absolute bully on the field from the tackle position. Christian has demonstrated the ability to use his size to his advantage and put defenders on the ground in the run game as well as in pass protection. You can even see Christian make the extra effort to punish defenders after the initial knockdown, showing the aggressive attitude you look for in a lineman. As a run blocker, Christian uses his frame to dominate defensive ends and the smaller second-level defenders. Christian also demonstrates his ability to dominate interior defenders with down blocks, which are essential to executing a successful power-running scheme. As a pass protector, Christian has shown the ability to properly cut off the defender’s pass rush angle using his footwork as well as stopping the rush with excellent hand placement. So far, Christian has paired his aggression with a good technique base, making him a solid collegiate prospect.
OL: Cam Wilson Cam Wilson 6'4" | 280 lbs | OL Gonzaga | 2022 State MD , 6’4″, 280, Gonzaga, 2022, JR
As a guard, Cam’s film demonstrates the ability to stay low and create leverage, allowing him to constantly win the line of scrimmage in the run game. Cam also exhibits the ability to pull athletically and under control on his tape. Cam is able to feel his way around the other lineman while not losing sight of his target backer. Cam has also shown his ability to properly execute the techniques of a double team with either his center or tackle while staying focused on his targeted backer. As a pass protector Cam has excellent hand placement, allowing him to quickly stop the rush and maintain the depth of the pocket. Cam also looks to help both his center and tackle if he is uncovered in pass protection, which a vital role for the guards of an offensive line. Cam is a very well-coached lineman that has shown the ability to execute collegiate techniques. I believe Cam will quickly fit in well with a college system, making him a high-level prospect.
OL: Conner Washington Conner Washington 6'4" | 290 lbs | OL Flowers | 2022 MD , 6’4″, 290, CH Flowers, 2022, JR
As a center, Conner demonstrates the ability to win the point of attack in the run game. Conner is able to utilize his power and leg drive to root interior defensive lineman out of the a-gaps, creating holes in the middle of the defense. Conner also demonstrates his speed by quickly contacting and smothering linebackers on the second level when he’s uncovered, springing his running back loose for explosive plays. Conner also demonstrates his versatility by stepping in at guard, tackle, and even long snapper when needed. Playing these different positions during a season also shows Conner’s will to win and help his team be successful. Pairing that trait with the skill set he displays on his film gives him a tremendous upside, making him a quality collegiate prospect.
