Not only are some of the top recruits in the state prospects that stand out nationwide, but there are plenty of players left to be discovered as well. Some of these prospects, half of which most people have never head of, will go on to be some of the better prospects in the class within the next few years, and some of them will even find themselves playing football at the next level. Below, we have included a few 2023 QB prospects that you probably have never heard of. Regardless, each of these players has a ton of talent, and will start to see more time in the coming years.
Mekhi Blocker- Greater Atlanta Christian
Blocker, who is about 5’10 shows that even though he is a smaller QB, he can play above his size. Not only does he have a bit of a thicker build, but he also shows good leg drive when carrying the ball. As a passer, despite his raw footwork and mechanics, he has a decent release, with good vision of the field. Not only does he have es-capability when he needs to, but he also is athletic enough to open up the play at multiple levels. He makes good decisions as a passer, and will most likely clean up his mechanics as he grows in physique.
Boris Melton- Seminole County
There are plenty of things to enjoy when watching Melton play football. Not only is he slippery in the pocket, but he has good balance and quick feet that help him get out of trouble. Because of this, he also has good escape ability, and the vision to make good throws downfield, even if the play is broken. His strong arm and release make him seem to be a good prospect as time will go on. His ability to hit his first read quickly makes him a great high school QB, and will most likely be a good small school prospect as well.
Jason Whitaker- Grovetown
One of Whitaker’s strengths is his ability to use his speed. This speed allows him to turn broken plays, into decent gains. Along with this, Whitaker also has okay accuracy, and a decent release. This allows him to beat defenders at times with his arm. While he does not have the strongest arm, it is strong enough to get the ball where it needs to be. With this, Whitaker also has good footwork, which ultimately helps him a ton with being able to see the field out of his drops. As he continues to develop, we see him as another small school prospect, but also feel that if he were to clean up his mechanics, he could be an even better player in his upcoming junior, and senior year of high school.
Tyler McGuire- Allatoona
McGuire, who we feel has the biggest upside on this list, put a ton of his ability on display this past season. Not only does he have good pocket composure, but he also has a good stature and build. He sees the field very well and his touch on the ball when he releases it is what sets him apart from the other 3 QB’s we have listed on this list. Along with this, his strong arm, and ability to make process reads at a decent rate makes him a QB that can certainly develop into a play maker these next two seasons. Expect him to receive more attention in the coming years.
