The Ed Doherty award is essentially the Heisman for Arizona high school football. To be nominated itself is a true honor, as you are recognized as one of the best football players in the state of Arizona. Not many players have what it takes to be elite, but these 5 players have gained the respect they deserve and established themselves as elite high school football players. Take a look:
Thompson 3431 yards and 34 TD’s, while adding another 40 yards and 8 TD’s on the ground. Thompson led Mesquite to their second consecutive 4A state championship win on a last minute drive and a clutch 2 point conversion to beat Cactus 39-38. He holds a 4 star rating from 247sports and will be playing at the University of Oregon in 2021. Thompson continued to prove why he is an elite QB, as he was able to sling multiple TD’s every game in the playoffs. He did a phenomenal job handling adversity in the state championship to lead

His pocket presence, ability to finesse throws in between defenders, and his overall football IQ is outstanding. Thompson is a very special player, and will be fun to follow at Oregon and throughout the rest of his career. Thompson ends his high school career with 9,891 yards passing and 100 TD’s, establishing himself as an Elite QB in the history of Arizona high school football.
