They have given the only state in the Midwest, who hasn’t played in the fall, multiple opportunities to showcase their talents for collegiate scouts and give them great coaching to get better. Once again they held a fantastic camp, their annual MLK Day Showcase, which ended up at the Sparta Dome in Crown Point, Indiana. The event brought kids from all over the Midwest, so here are the top performing quarterbacks and running backs.
2022 quarterback Jameson Sheehan, Cary Grove, IL (6’3” and 194lbs) @sheehanjameson
Last time I saw Sheehan, he was just throwing fastballs. I told him to show me some touch next time, and on Monday he showed it. The baseball player has plenty of arm strength, an upper 80’s fastball, so he can make all the throws.

Sheehan is growing as a quarterback and taking instruction well, he’s been all over the camp circuit. He is not getting enough recruiting attention, the young man can make all the throws.
2022 quarterback Aidan Pieper Aidan Pieper 6'2" | 205 lbs | QB Nazareth Academy | 2022 State IL , Nazareth Academy, IL (6’3” and 196lbs) @PieperAidan
Another young man that keeps progressing each time I see him. The last time I saw Pieper, it was cold with some light snow, but that didn’t slow him down at all.
Big shoes to fill for @PieperAidan but he has plenty of talent to do it. Speaking of talented, the back catching the pass @KyleClayton03 has tons of it too. They had some good chemistry on Monday together pic.twitter.com/Wws8GHXe46

He throws a pretty deep ball, great loft and accuracy. Pieper can also zing it on short and intermediate routes. Coming in and following JJ McCarthy’s footsteps, it a tall task, but Pieper has the talent see no drop off for Nazareth.
2022 Quarterback Gage Stenger, Millard South, NE (6’3” and 200lbs) @StengerGage
Some of the out of state prospects I didn’t know, but Stenger stood out. A big athlete, it seems like he can play plenty of different positions. He repped as a quarterback and it looked like Stenger was very comfortable. A great deep ball, good touch, hitting his targets in stride. Get this guy on your team and figure out what to do with him later. Stenger is a football player, period.
2023 Quarterback Anthony Picciolini, Benet Academy, IL (6’1.5” and 216lbs) @anthonypic2
One of our scouts, Ryan Bennett, tweeted out that running 9 routes isn’t always the answer. What it does do for us scouts however, is to see if those players have the arm strength to make those throws. Picciolini does, but it wasn’t just about that with the young signal caller. He’s got a great frame and will fill out as he gets older. Got some JV run last year, I hope there is a spring season and he get’s some varsity reps to really see how good he can be.
2023 Quarterback Ashton Gondeck, Carmel Catholic, IL (5’11.5” and 166lbs) @AshtonGondeck
Not the biggest quarterback but Gondeck makes up for it with his accuracy. Places the ball well on shorter throws, does need to improve his deep ball accuracy, but as he gets stronger that will come. Really like the upside with Gondeck.
2022 Quarterback Jack Lausch Jack Lausch 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Brother Rice | 2022 State IL , Brother Rice, IL (6’3” and 195lbs) @jack_lausch
Lausch is a big time sleeper, I got a chance to speak with him after his group went and he told me he has a PWO offer from Notre Dame, but shockingly not much interest otherwise. If you’re a PWO to a high level program like ND, you should be getting much more attention. A two-sport athlete, baseball, Lausch has great size and zip on his throws. It is time to Lausch on your recruiting board, he’s a player.
2022 Quarterback Nevan Cremascoli Nevan Cremascoli 6'4" | 205 lbs | QB New Trier | 2022 State IL , New Trier, IL (6’3” and 209lbs) @nevancremascoli
Honestly, the first time I saw him over the summer, I wasn’t that impressed. Seeing him on Monday, it seemed like Cremascoli was a different player. Better footwork, stronger arm, he’s grown a bit as well. Cremascoli has obviously been working on his game, and it’s starting to show. The size and strength your looking for in a quarterback prospect.
2023 Quarterback Cole Teschner, Montini Catholic, (6’2” and 194lbs) @ColeTeschner
Another guy that has made strides from the last time I’ve seen him, Teschner looks so much more confident throwing the ball. He has been traveling with the Boom 7v7 team, and those reps have made Teschner much better. Quick feet and release, he’s coming on big time as a signal caller.
2022 Running back Kyle Clayton, Phillips Academy, IL (6’ and 193lbs) @KyleClayton03
I had heard about Clayton, but have yet to see him live and he did not disappoint. He’s got great size and is blazing fast. I asked him to matchup with Pieper due to the other quarterbacks under throwing him, Clayton was too fast for them. (The tweet above from Sheehan is Clayton on the receiving end) It’s difficult for backs to stand out at camp environments like this but the rising junior sure did.
2022 Running back Gavin Sarvis, Burlington Central HS, IL (6’1” and 190lbs) @GavinSarvis
When a running back goes up and high points a ball like a receiver it catches your eye. That’s what Sarvis did, which shows what an impressive athlete he can be. Maybe he ends up moving out wide, maybe he stays in the backfield. Either way, Sarvis is a solid player who good upside.
2022 Running back Jahari Scott Jahari Scott 5'11" | 175 lbs | RB Lake Forest | 2022 State IL , Lake Forest HS, IL (5’11” and 170lbs) @JahariScott
Absolute blazing fast, I didn’t see him run a 40, after seeing him run routes, it must have been a fast time. Scott does have a smaller build, but has the frame to continue to add on good weight that he’ll need to absorb hits as a ball carrier. I like what he brought to the table as a pass-catcher and feel like Scott has plenty of upside.
