Film review: Class of 2022 part 2
In this article:
Honestly, I am not sure when I will finish off with this 2022 class review, as almost every day recruits continue to send me their highlight reels and the list continues to grow. That is obviously a good thing, as many of them want the extra exposure and I am more than willing to help out any way that I can. Here is part 2 of my 2022 film review with prospects from all across the country.
Defensive end / outside linebacker Jackson Funderburg, Jackson, IL (6’4” and 220-pounds) @j_funderburg
I love size for this young man, plenty of room for his frame to fill out as he gets older. Most of his tape was on the offensive side of the ball at tackle. Although I don’t feel like that is his future, having experience there is not a bad thing at all. Funderburg has some great leg drove on his blocks, as he consistently finishes, playing through the whistle. The nasty is there as well, he’s a player that can see an uptick in his recruitment hopefully when a spring season happens in Illinois.
Nose guard / long snapper Philip Dozier, Glenbard West, IL (6’1” and 210-pounds) @doze83369898
I’m a big fan to multi-sport athletes and Dozier falls in that category. A ranked wrestler in Illinois, he uses this solid athleticism to be disruptive from the nose guard position. If he wants to continue playing that position, weight gain will be critical. He shows a good swim move, which leads me to think he could move out and become a defensive end if he can’t add on extra weight. Dozier’s handwork is good, due to his wrestling background. As for long snapping, he’s got a solid delivery, but does need to put more pace on his snaps.
Offensive lineman / defensive lineman Tristan Moctezuma, Sheboygan, WI (6’4” and 272-pounds) @TristanMoctezu3
A large and imposing figure, Moctezuma shows some solid athleticism for a player his size. He can get to the second level of a defense and has some good footwork to get him there. Occasionally, Moctezuma gets a bit too upright while he’s blocking, something he could work on in the offseason. He has good upper-body strength and that translates on both sides of the ball. Moctezuma has a good motor on defense, showing versatility to play anywhere along the line. Currently talking to coaching staffs at Drake and Ripon as a jumbo athlete, they’ll figure out his position when he arrives on campus.
Offensive lineman / defensive lineman Mustafa Washington, Richards, IL (6’1” and 275-pounds) @Mwashington56
Another prospect that can be labeled a jumbo athlete, Washington shows good traits on both sides of the ball. Personally, I like him better as a defensive tackle, due to his good handwork and aggressive nature. Washington disengages from blockers well although sometimes he can be a little too high when trying to tackle. At the current moment Washington has no offers, but schools need to start reaching out. I have seen him at multiple camps and workouts, he’s one of the hardest workers in the state.
Middle linebacker Mitchell Jezierski Mitchell Jezierski 6'2" | 215 lbs | LB Rogers | 2022 State MN , Rogers, MN (6’2” and 215-pounds) @MitchellJerzier1
Great size for a MLB, Jezierski shows very good read and react instincts at the position. he strafes very well, putting him in position to makes plays from the middle of the defense. A physical run stopper, Jezierski fits the best on the inside but to solid but not spectacular speed. Currently, he has no offers but he has the ability to help a team out at the next level.
Defensive back Robert Satterwhite, Joliet West, IL (5’10 and 155-pounds) @Rob_0822
Undersized but Satterwhite is not afraid to come up and make contact. He reads plays well, and has good enough hands to makes plays on the ball when given the opportunity. Has solid closing speed and once he adds on more weight will be a much bigger force in the secondary. I like that he takes good angles on plays, using his speed to make up the distance. No offers currently, but he has the qualities to be a player at the next level.
Quarterback / tight end Kevin Zimmer Kevin Zimmer 6'3" | 230 lbs | QB Sandburg | 2022 State IL , Sandburg, IL (6’3” and 220-pounds) @Kevin_Zimmer3
Of this group of 10 prospects, Zimmer was my favorite due to his versatility and willingness to do whatever a coaching staff would ask him to do. I love that in a player, but Zimmer’s future is at tight end although getting a look at quarterback might not be the worst idea for a team recruiting him. As a QB, Zimmer leads his receivers well, has a good delivery and gets the ball out quick with good touch. His ceiling as a tight end however is much higher. Zimmer already possess the size to play the position and always falls forward when contact is made. He’s difficult to bring down and has good hands. No offers at the moment but that should change when he gets on the field next. He’s worthy of getting some looks.
Defensive back Jaydon Jones, Clarksville, TN (6’ and 175-pounds) @Jaydon3x
Jones could play multiple spots in the secondary, but I like him best as a safety. He can play inside the box if needed, Jones plays best when everything is in front of him. Sometimes he has issues turning his head as a corner, but that can be corrected with coaching and technique. He will need to get a bit stronger to be more effective at the next level. Jones takes good angles on plays that aren’t directly in front of him. Jones currently does not hold any offers.
Running back Justin Pessoa, Clayton, NJ (5’11” and 170-pounds) @JustinPessoa
The Jersey back has good speed, enough to get to the edges and take it to the house. Although Pessoa isn’t the biggest back, he is strong enough to run through arm tackles. He is more of a north/south runner, he’s got some wiggle but not a ton. Shows good vision, finding holes when it doesn’t seem like there is room to run. If RB doesn’t work out, he could move to the other side of the ball and play defensive back. No offers at the moment, but is in conversations with Villanova and Wagner.
Wide receiver / defensive back Kristyon Broadwater, Augusta, GA (6’ and 178-pounds) @Kristyon5
Broadwater is a versatile player, who pops off the screen from different positions. He lines up all over the field, sometimes at corner, safety and even at middle linebacker. Broadwater’s future is most likely as a free safety, as he reads plays well. He is able to clean up plays due to great form tackling, driving his legs though the ball carrier and not letting go.
