Continue ReadingMy list of prospects that have asked to have their tape reviewed continues to grow and after using most of my time to review the prospects from last weeks EFT / EDGY Tim’s MLK Showcase, there was time to get back into looking at 2022 prospects film. This review has players across multiple states and players on offense and defensive. Here is my breakdown of what I saw from their film.
DE Cody Silzer, Lockport, IL (6’3” and 225lbs) @codysilzer
An extremely long frame with room to fill out, Silzer uses his long reach to disrupt QB’s, either forcing bad throws or battling them down. He sheds blockers well, but does need to add other moves aside from a solid bullrush. Silzer can play either side of the defensive line and also uses the long frame to make plays on special teams. Currently he is talking with St. Thomas, Drake and Columbia, but no offers at the current moment. Expect his recruitment to pick up as soon as Illinois gets back on the field.
RB Warren Kinney, Brooklyn Center, MN (5’8 and 165lbs) @Warr3nKinney
Kinney’s highlight package starts off with games in the snow, shocking for Minnesota, but the impressive part is that he is able to keep his balance and gain solid yardage. He’s got good speed, which shows as occasionally he splits out wide in the slot. Kinney is a decent blocker even though he’s on the smaller side. What stands out is his ability to fall forward on carries, getting those extra yards by churning his legs. Kinney is in contact with a few schools like Memphis, Grandview University, St. Norbert, Army, Augsburg, Moorehead and Minnesota State but no offers at the moment.
TE Chris Stinson, West Aurora HS, IL (6’5” and 196lbs) @chris_stinson11
Although Stinson mainly lines up out wide, his future in my estimation is at tight end. He does not possess the speed necessary to stay as a full time receiver, but his frame has room to grown into a very good tight end. He high points balls with strong hands and is a big time redzone threat. Stinson shows good work with his blocking, but will obviously need more work if he makes the transition over to tight end. He is talking to Drake, St. Thomas, Wayne St, Duke and Columbia, but doesn’t have any offers at the moment. Those will come as soon as he gets back on the field.
OG Darius Hubbard, Fairmont, WV (6’1” and 280lbs) @DariusHubbardJr
A thick lineman, who is very strong at the point of attack. Once Hubbard gets his opposition locked up, he doesn’t allow them to get away from his grasp. He’s got a great leg drive which results in plenty of pancakes and is athletic enough to get to the second level. At the moment, Hubbard is a better at run blocking, but is not terrible at pass protection. Currently he holds an offer from Elizabeth City State and is talking with a few other D3 programs.
DB Teagan Pfeffer Teagan Pfeffer 6'1" | 175 lbs | DB Alexandria | 2022 State MN , Alexandria, MN (6’1” and 176lbs) @pfeffer_teagan
Solid in the return game, picks good lanes due to his vision. Pfeffer is a solid tackler, but he plays off the ball so his future is more likely as a safety than as a corner, due to average hip movements. He has solid vision and play diagnosis, which is more fuel to the safety fire. Currently no offers for Pfeffer, however he does have the ability to play at the next level and should get some offers soon.
MLB Ryan Haley Ryan Haley 6'0" | 205 lbs | LB Mankato-West | 2022 State MN , Mankato West HS, MN (6’ and 205lbs) @RyanHaley_2
Speed jumps off right away with Haley, he’s got plenty of it manning the middle of a defense. He uses it to disguise his blitzes well, as Haley does not need to creep to the line, thus hiding his intentions from offenses. When he does blitz, there’s great timing and recognition. Haley plays the run very well and is solid in pass coverage also, once again with his speed showing. Haley pursues the ball well, he is able to make plays all over the field. At this moment he has no offers but is in conversations with Columbia, Yale, Princeton, St. Thomas (MN), Augustana, Bemidji St and Grand View. I really like he upside with Haley, he should be getting some offers soon.
Quarterback Brandon Rogers, Mt. Carmel, IL (5’11” and 185lbs) @Brandon_Rogers8
I’ve seen Rogers in person at a few showcases this past fall, every time his arm strength stands out which isn’t surprising as he is currently a Oklahoma baseball commit. His touch on throws is impressive, he knows when to give extra loft instead of just throwing a fastball. Rogers’ athleticism is impressive as well, he is a true dual-threat quarterback. A quick decision maker, who gets the ball out of his hands quickly. Although his tape for quarterback is at the JV level, Rogers shows some massive upside. Rogers wants to play both sports and he certainly has the ability to do so. No schools are currently talking to him about playing football, but that needs to change, Rogers has the ability to be a player at the next level on the gridiron and diamond.
WR Isaiah Romano Wheeling HS, IL (5’9” and 145lbs) @IsaiahRomano3
Undersized but quick, Romano has a knack for finding open spaces. He’s a playmaker who is able to make in impact in a variety of ways, running reverses, plays from the slot, taking handoffs in the backfield and in the return game. Romano is a hard worker, a fantastic kid who would be a great addition to any locker room. He needs to put more weight on his frame to make a bigger impact at the next level, and is working hard at it. No offers a that moment, but with a big junior year, he should start to get some recruiting attention.
DE/DT Makhi Gilbert, Central HS, AL (6’3” and 235lbs) @gilbert_makhi
A big frame, with room to add good weight, is a bit undersized to play tackle right now. The good news is that Gilbert can slide down the line and play end where he shows good hands and a very solid swim move. He will need to add more moves to the arsenal, but the potential is there. Gilbert sheds blockers well right now, but will do a much better job as he gets older and continues to add on strength. Currently he has an offer from Eastern Kentucky, while talking with West Alabama and Albany. With some growth, Gilbert should see much more action on the recruiting trail.
DE Brandon Harry, Crete-Monee, IL (6’2” and 210lbs) @Brandon93Harry
When I spoke with Harry, he wanted to let me know he’s made huge strides during this offseason, getting stronger while getting speed work and becoming faster. It is hard for me to assess his film with that in mind, but I’ll get a chance to see him next month at The Line showcase. What his tape did show me was that he’s got a great frame with room to grow. He does well on special teams due to his solid disengaging skills. No offers at the moment, but I look forward to seeing his progression next month.
