Continue ReadingI am a big fan of these young men that aren’t afraid to reach out to me and ask for their tape to be reviewed. I love being able to help them out in any way possible and this is just one of the ways that I can. With that said, there are more than a few impressive prospects within this 2022 group that you’ll need to keep an eye on the next year and a half. Here is my review of ‘22 prospects from a few states in the Midwest.
WR Jack Tremblay, Lincoln Way East HS, IL (6’ and 190lbs) @jacktremblay7
Big shoes to fill from Tremblay as he will slide into the spot previously occupied by Michigan’s AJ Henning. From what I saw on his tape, there shouldn’t be much of a drop off in production. Tremblay has an impressive skill set which includes 4.4 speed, a great catch radius and very solid blocking skills. He lulls defenses on screens, but then turns it on when he gets the ball, showing his speed and ability to be a game-breaker. Very good in the return game as well, Tremblay has a bright future due to his work ethic, always in the gym or in a training session. Currently he’s had contact with multiple MAC schools, Wyoming and others but once he gets some new film out there, his recruitment will see other schools join the mix.
DE Cole Silzer, Lockport, IL (6’3” and 230lbs) @SilzerCole1
A bit bigger than his twin brother Cody, Cole is also long and athletic, another two-sport star. He got a great initial burst off the line which gives him an advantage over slower offensive tackles. Silzer uses his long frame to disrupt quarterbacks, he’s got a knack for knocking down passes. He can continue to add on good weight due to his frame, he’ll just get better as that happens. Silzer is talking to Drake, St. Thomas and Columbia, but he’s another player in the state of Illinois that once teams see his new tape, offers will start coming.
RB Iyron Young, Oswego HS, IL (5’8” and 141lbs) @iyron5
Although Young possess a smaller frame, he uses it to his advantage by hiding well behind his lineman and then using his speed to get to the outside and make big plays. He shows solid hands out of the backfield with a good cutting ability. Young will need to add on some weight in order to be a more effective RB at the next level, after playing on JV last year, this spring will be big for his development. He is in conversation with schools like Judson, McPherson College and Monmouth.
WR Colin Girdaukas, Sheboygan, WI (6’1 and 190lbs) @GirdaukasColin
After watching Girdaukas’ film and finding out he has no offers, I was shocked. He is coming off a absolutely massive junior season, showing a very good skill set for a wide out. Girdaukas has the speed to take short passes into big gainers, great vision after the catch and a stiff arm that helps him get into space against smaller defenders. He shows impressive balance and hands, Girdaukas could improve his blocking. At least multiple schools know of him as Girdaukas has been talking with Illinois St, N. Dakota St., Eastern Michigan and a few other schools. Offer this young man soon before he blows up!
DB Sam Carlson, Iowa City, IA (5’8” and 160lbs) @Sam_carlson04
This undersized defender has the ability to play all over the field, often lining up as an outside linebacker. His future isn’t there, it’s at cornerback where he plays much bigger than his size indicates. Carlson is not afraid of contact and that shows when he comes up and makes plays defending the run. Maximum effort every play from Carlson, he’s a grinder. Right now now, Carlson is not talking to any schools.
QB Keegan Glover Keegan Glover 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Benton | 2022 State IL , Benton, IL (6’ and 165lbs) @GloverKeegan
A sneaky good athlete who is a tireless worker, Glover continues to work at his craft in order to become a better signal caller. He has gain some strength since last season, which he needs to continue to drive the ball when trying to find receivers in tight spaces. He has good anticipation, which make up for the arm strength, but that will come in time as Glover continues to get in the weight room. A few schools in contact like Murray State and Greenville University, once Glover hits the field again other teams will take notice.
LB Cole Brannigan, Lemont, IL (5’9” and 185lbs) @ColeBrannigan
Another undersized linebacker, Brannigan makes up for it with his good anticipation skills. He also has very solid coverage skills, so there is potential that he could move back into a safety spot at the next level. Brannigan is a great form tackler, another skills that could ultimately make him move to the back end of a defense. An absolute special teams demon, Brannigan isn’t talking to any schools at the moment.
LB Luke Woodson, Deerfield, IL (5’10” and 185lbs) @LukeWoodson2
Woodson’s future right off the bat screams in the secondary and after finding out which schools are talking to him, that sentiment seems to be the case. A very good blitzer who is always around the ball, Woodson will move back to a safety spot at the next level. A good tackler, which is what you need at the safety spot, Woodson shows good hands to make plays on bad throws as well. He currently is talking with Ivy League schools, a few Mac schools, NIU and a few others. Get on him soon!
RB Wade Abrams, Cary Grove, IL (6’ and 202lbs) @wade_abrams
Cary Grove’s offense makes it very tough to get a good idea of what the players in their offense can be. The Wing-T should get retired, but Abrams makes the most out of it, with solid speed and size, making him difficult to take down. He’s good good hands out of the backfield when they actually throw the ball. I’d love to see what he could do in a much more modern offense. Right now Abrams really isn’t seeing much recruiting interest.
