The Hillsboro school district has changed a lot since then with the addition of Century and Liberty HS, which greatly decreased the enrollment at each campus.
All of that said as this current Glencoe program should be considered one of the fastest rising teams in the state. A lot of credit to the athletic department with the hire of former Oregon Duck Ian Reynoso as their head coach. Reynoso excelled with the Ducks from 2001-04, starting for multiple seasons on the O line.
More importantly he has been working tirelessly to help his athletes, on the field and the recruiting front. Reynoso is also the head track coach. Speaking on his team coach says, “Our senior class (2021) is our first group that has been committed for their entire career. We have had buy in from 80% of the senior’s that are going into their 4th year in the program. You can see the production change from going winless in league as Sophomores, to finishing 3rd last year as Junior’s.”
Glencoe finished (5-5) last season, barely losing to a Barlow team 19-14, who made a run all the way to the state semi-finals. One of the fastest rising players in Northwest, and a kid you will hear a lot about moving forward is Royce Fasel Royce Fasel 6'0" | 225 lbs | LB Glencoe | 2022 State OR 6-0 235 RB/LB 22’. To put his talent into perspective, he was the only Sophomore in Oregon to earn all state accolades at the 6A level. His first team all-conference honors on both sides of the football in 2019 also puts a stamp on his versatility. On the year he accounted for 87.5 tackles and 6 tackles for loss, while rushing for 1,123 yards and 10 TDs in 9 games.
Speaking on Fasel coach says, “Royce is the best football player I’ve ever coached. He is a dedicated teammate and leader on and off the field. He is a ’throwback’ in every sense of the word on offense and defense, and would play any position we would need if it helps the team win.”
Another one of the state’s best for 2022 is Zack Schlottman 6-3 220 TE/K/DE. Over the last few months his stock has risen substantially, after earning all-conference accolades at kicker and tight end as a Sophomore. Schlottman caught 28 passes for 227 yards in 2019. Talking on his athlete Coach Reynoso says, “This last season he decided to build upon his skills and has become a major threat offensively and defensively. He has increased his speed and agility, as well as his overall strength.”
Two other individuals with size you will hear about include, Ben Thornbrue 6-6 230 DL/TE 22’ and Cam Stortro 6-5 195 QB 23’ . Coach calls Thornbrue a “slippery D end” and also a talented hooper. Stortro has the potential to start as a Sophomore and is a versatile overall athlete.
In summary the Crimson Tide should be one of the better teams in the Pacific Conference year in and year out. Coach Reynoso has done an outstanding job building the program back up in a short period of time and the kids have responded. It’s a weird year but you can expect the Crimson Tide to battle and be a consistent playoff team moving forward.
