While the majority of the prospects were from Illinois, there were a handful of players from the Hoosier state. Here are 3 Indiana HS prospects that stood out amongst the crowd full of players with multiple D1 offers.
- 2022 WR Donye Higgins- Elkhart HS: This was the first time that I had seen Donye in person, and he definitely made an impression on me. The 2 year varsity player may be under the recruiting radar right now, but when coaches have the chance to see him compete in person, that is sure to change. The first thing that stands out with Higgins is how smooth he is in all of his movements. The type of player that is smooth to the point where it is hard to tell how fast he is, but then you see him consistently create separation from defenders, so you know he has some wheels. One of my favorite attributes that he possesses as a prospect- is his great body control, and ability to adjust when the ball is in the air to make the tough catch. With above average size at 6′ 185, Higgins is also a polished route runner that uses his body to box out defenders, and does a great job making the catch on 50/50 balls. My evaluation is far from over with the Jr prospect from Elkhart, but I see the awesome potential that he has. Donye is a prospect that should start catching some D1 attention from coaches as we near the Spring Evaluation Period.
- 2023 OL De’Eric Mister- West Side Leadership Academy: The first thing that stands out about Mister is his incredible frame. He measured in at 6’6″ 285 at the event, and he is one of the best looking 2023 OL prospect that I have seen from the Midwest this year. It comes as no surprise that he was a starter on varsity for West Side, and even as talented as he is right now… He is just scratching the surface of what he can be as a prospect. Like many young OL prospects that you see with his size, Mister is still growing into his frame, developing overall body control, and learning the intricacies of the position. At the same time, you also see him flash a big time skill-set at a very young age. As De’Eric continues to grow, develop as a football player, and gain strength… I have no question that he will be on plenty of major college football teams evaluation list. The sky is truly the limit for De’Eric. I am very excited to follow his development and recruitment over the next few years.
- 2024 OL Henry Martello- Culver Academy: The 2024 OL prospect from Culver Academy may only be a freshman, but you would never have guessed that from his performance at the Showcase. He measured in at 6’2.75″ 247 pounds at the event, and even though he still has a lot of growth in front of him, he already looks the size of an upperclassmen OL prospect. The biggest thing that stood out while watching him during drills, was his impressive twitch, and overall athleticism. He pairs that with great bend, feet, and outstanding lateral movement for a Fr OL prospect. Unlike a lot of prospects his age, Martello is pretty polished, and already possesses a skill-set that few player his age have at the position. The biggest thing that I will be tracking over the next few years is his overall growth, and ability to keep his high level of athleticism with the added size. It can be really hard to project a prospect when they are a freshman in HS, because there are so many variables involved. That being said, as long as Henry continues to develop the way he has up until this point… There is little doubt that he will be attracting plenty of coaches attention in the coming years.
