With many programs still trying to get their 2021 seniors placed, and for colleges to take a serious look at their current juniors (2022), it’s the sophomore class that is getting plenty of spotlight – with so many gifted football players.
Take a look anywhere in Florida and you will find some impressive sophomores, who are already embracing the 2021 season.
Remember, it is not like it used to be – when players would hit the field for the first time. Today, athletes are starting at the varsity level as young as the 8th grade – and are more than holding their own.
One of the regions of the state that has continued to churn out top-flight talent is Northeast Florida. In and around Jacksonville, you will find elite football talent that is competing year-round and doing an amazing job.
Here are five Class of 2023 sophomores to keep an eye on:
Davis Ashcroft, PK, , Ponte Vedra. The one position that has really taken off the past few years are special teams. Long snappers, punters and kickers have started to make a huge impact in the outcome of games. Here is a fast-rising young man, who booted a 52-yard field goal for Sharks. Is already rated among the top kickers nationally.

He was among the Gateway Conference’s most explosive talents this past season. His 1,418 all-purpose yards, four interceptions, and scoring touchdowns six different ways is going to make this quality talent a player to keep on your radar screen.
