In this article we are taking a look at the Class of 2024 prospects who stood out…
Darius (DJ) Jones Darius (DJ) Jones 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Fort Zumwalt West | 2024 State MO , RB, 5-9, 163, Fort Zumwalt West
Only a freshman, Jones had one of the best statistical days of anyone at the Showcase. He recorded a 4.51 hand-timed 40-yard dash, a 4.28-second short shuttle, a vertical leap of 33 inches and a broad jump of 9 feet 6 inches.
Jones got some varsity carries for the Jaguars as a freshman, as part of a young backfield that included sophomore running back (and 1,000-yard rusher) Kyle Nunn and sophomore quarterback Mike Ludwig, and showed what he could do. He ran 37 times for 181 yards and scored two touchdowns.
Jeremiah McClellan Jeremiah McClellan 6'0" | 185 lbs | WR CBC | 2024 State MO , ATH, 5-11, 183, CBC
McClellan will be a name to remember going into the 2021 season. His older brother Matt was a standout defensive end at Francis Howell who played at Missouri State. The next McClellan already has a college-ready body and impressive athleticism. He recorded a 38-inch vertical leap and a 9 foot broad jump, two of the better marks on the day despite only being a freshman.
McClellan got some varsity snaps for CBC this season and with the graduation of three college-bound wide receivers and two of the area’s top quarterbacks throwing to him next year, he could put up some big numbers for the Cadets. He also has the physical ability to be an impact player at linebacker or defensive back.
McClellan’s season highlights below are a mix of varsity and junior varsity.
Jesse Watson, WR, 5-7, 133, East St. Louis (Ill.)
Another playmaker to watch in the future from the powerhouse East St. Louis program, Watson hasn’t played a high school game yet but showed well at the Showcase. He recorded a 4.61 hand-timed 40-yard dash, a 4.27-second short shuttle, a 9-foot broad jump and a vertical leap of 29 1/2 inches.
Aidan Crews Aidan Crews 6'1" | 195 lbs | DB Eureka | 2024 State MO , WR, 5-11, 139, Eureka
Crews recorded a 4.69 hand-timed 40-yard dash, a 4.37-second short shuttle, 9-foot broad jump and 30 1/2 inch vertical leap.
Crews wasn’t on Eureka’s varsity roster this past season, but looks like a player who could emerge in 2021 and put up some decent numbers in the future in the Wildcats’ pass-happy offense.
Sam Vu Sam Vu 5'8" | 165 lbs | ATH Rockwood Summit | 2024 State MO , ATH, 5-6, 144, Rockwood Summit
Vu will be an interesting player to watch for the next few years. He recorded a 4.69 hand-timed 40-yard dash, a 4.38-second short shuttle, a broad jump of 9 feet 1 inches and a vertical leap of 30 1/2 inches.
Vu was a member of Summit’s varsity squad as a freshman, playing cornerback, and was credited with 19 tackles in five games. He had at least three tackles in every game.
